 The Hike The South Kootenai Lake Trail #53 branches off the main Kootenai Creek Trail at the intersection for South and North Kootenai Lakes at a little over the 11 mile mark. After crossing its outlet stream, the trail immediately passes the Middle Fork Lake of the Kootenai group and then begins a modest climb and contour to South Kootenai Lake. At the time of this description the trail to South Kootenai was overgrown and a significant blow down area right before the lake had wiped out a large portion of the trail.
