Overview Egypt Lake is an excellent destination for a first time backpacking experience in Banff National Park. History The Egyptian theme of the immediate area... Egypt Lake, Mummy Lake, Pharaoh Peaks were applied in 1922 by Arthur O. Wheeler of the Interprovincial Boundary Survey. The Hike The shortest and perhaps most scenic trail to access Egypt Lake is the Healy Pass Trail. However, some may choose to access the lake from the longer Redearth Creek Trail. Notes A backcountry permit is required to stay overnight at Egypt Lake. The backcountry site is well developed. There is an established eating area with bear lockers for your food, numbered sites and outhouses. Egypt Lake is an ideal area to set up a base camp and spend a few days day hiking and exploring the surrounding lakes. Snow remains in this area and at Healy Pass into mid to late July regularly.
