Average hike for average people by gummo ![]() Overview
This is a popular trail for hiking and snowshoeing, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of the day. Dogs aren't allowed on this trail. The trail is between 2.8 to 3.3 miles, depending on where you park. You can park at the Silver Fork Restaurant, Spruce Campground, or somewhere on the road at the trailhead. Unfortunately, there are no signs to the trailhead that I saw, but the town of Silver Fork is pleasant to get lost in as moose, deer, squirrels, and birds are commonly seen in the town. You can walk down Spruce Campground Rd to the trailhead.
The trail heads northeast, switchbacks, and climbs steeply for about a mile. Flowers provide some beauty to the trail as there are no overlooks. As a side trail comes up from below and joins on the left, you need to stay right. From the side trail, it is a short 10 minutes to a small meadow surrounded by aspen and conifer trees, which is Greens Basin. The trail fades at this point and does not loop or connect to another trail. Leave No Trace and +Add a Triplog after your hike to support this local community. |
