The Missing Connector by MEWhiteman Overview
The Javelina Pass Trail is a short, flat connector trail between the Sidewinder and Ocotillo Trails in the Phoenix Sonoran Preserve North section. It is a new official city trail which opens up the possibility of more loop hikes in this park. The trail is located west of the Ridgeback and adjoining hills and east of the highpoint on the Sidewinder Trail. As of mid-October 2023 it is not yet on the trailhead or online maps. As it is a connector trail, it is not accessible directly from the trailhead. Hike The trail is reached either from the Sidewinder Trail or the Ocotillo Trail. This description assumes a start at the Apache Wash Trailhead hiking a counter-clockwise loop. Hike 2.77 miles on the Sidewinder Trail (blue blazes) to the junction with the Javelina Pass Trail (N33.78247 W112.06225) (red blazes). Just before the junction, you pass the junction with the Ridgeback Trail at 2.47 miles and the 10th Street Access trail at 2.65 miles. After crossing a wash you reach the northern junction with this new trail. Turn left. The trail itself is an easy-to-follow single track with little elevation gain with a few small wash crossings. At 3.24 miles the junction with the Ocotillo Trail is reached (N33.77797 W112.06656) (orange blazes). Turn left on the Ocotillo Trail to return to the trailhead where you began at 5.07 miles. Check out the Official Route and Triplogs. Leave No Trace and +Add a Triplog after your hike to support this local community. One-Way Notice This hike is listed as One-Way.
