Honoring Heroes, Echoing History by The_Eagle The Pearl Harbor National Memorial is a place in Hawaii that honors a tragic event in American history. On December 7, 1941, the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, a U.S. Navy base, without warning. This attack led the United States to enter World War II. The USS Arizona, a battleship, was one of the ships that was destroyed in the attack, and 1,177 sailors lost their lives.
The memorial has two important parts. First, there's the USS Arizona Memorial, a special white building that stands over the sunken remains of the battleship. You can take a boat to reach this place, where you can see parts of the sunken ship just beneath the water's surface. It's a very quiet and respectful place to remember the people who died that day.
