World's Largest Musical Instrument by kingsnake ![]() Luray Caverns was discovered in 1878 after locals found cool air issuing from a limestone outcropping near Luray, VA. The caverns have been a tourist attraction ever since and now attract over half a million visitors annually.
The caverns are the main attraction and were quite crowded. Currently, $34 is for adults, and general admission includes the caverns, Car & Carriage Caravan Museum, Shenandoah Heritage Village, and Toy Town Junction. Other attractions in the complex — the Gem Sluice, Rope Adventure Park, and Garden Maze — have additional fees. Discounts are available for seniors, children, and military.
Notable formations in the 64-acre cave system include Leaning Column, Saracen's Tent, Empress Column, Giant's Hall, Double Column, Pluto's Ghost, Brand's Cascade, Hovey's Balcony, Broaddus Lake, Castles on the Rhine, Dream Lake, Fried Eggs, and especially the 3½ acre Great Stalacpipe Organ (a lithophone rated by Guinness as the World's Largest Musical Instrument). Touring the cavern is like playing "Dungeons & Dragons", complete with hordes of goblins! (lol) More info at luraycaverns.com. Check out the Triplog.
