Expand MapAbout a mile east of Quail Spring (New River area), there's a hill-top fort with 6-8 foot tall walls. This site (Alpha Site) is one of four known hill-top forts in the area, dating back to the Hohokam era. Archeologists suggest that they were abandoned by the 13th century.

Alpha site is the most southeastern of the four hill-top forts. While completely off-trail, there are some signs of neighbors visiting on the east side of the hill. There's a bit of ATV track that peters out and shows some signs of modern foot traffic up to the fort. If you visit, please respect cultural resources.
