About a mile east of Quail Spring (New River area), there's a hill-top fort with 6-8 foot tall walls. This site (Alpha Site) is one of four known hill-top forts in the area, dating back to the Hohokam era. Archeologists suggest that they were abandoned by the 13th century.Alpha site is the most southeastern of the four hill-top forts. While completely off-trail, there are some signs of neighbors visiting on the east side of the hill. There's a bit of ATV track that peters out and shows some signs of modern foot traffic up to the fort. If you visit, please respect cultural resources. Check out the Triplog.
