Supernatural Supes Spuma

 Likely In-Season!
Expand MapOverview
Rock quality of the Superstition Mountains apparently has an inferior reputation, even though just east of the range is an area with similar volcanic rhyolite and tuff that draws perhaps thousands of climbers annually. A visit to Myth Wall will put this notion to rest by offering less drive time, remarkabe rock, and arguably the most arduous single-pitch routes in the Wilderness. Having said this, much of the fixed protection is going on forty years old, so be prepared for cryptic crimping, paranormal pocket pulling, transcendentally thin cracks, and occult runouts.

Approach
Find your way to The Cemetery and bear left (west) passing Warmup Galley, Cobra Kai, and The Final Cut. Following the Official Route, one passes through a neat groove, then up onto some large boulders to an angled ramp that tops out at the Lion’s Den anchors (~1.50 miles and 1075 AEG). Rap any of the various stations into the northwest-facing base, where the routes are huddled into three general groupings. Farthest north, past The Bathtub, is the most updated set of anchors. The other option is to find a way to scramble the Labyrinth around to the north, then to the west side, which would increase the one-way approach to 1.75 miles.

Synopsis
Magical morning shade, but much of the crag’s base is currently overgrown, especially the right (southwest) side. Quite a few of the larger trees have burned and now create a few inconvenient snags. None of the routes are more than eighty-five feet high, with the majority classified as mixed sport, so adjunct pro between bolts can be useful. Most of the routes pack a psychic punch, and it would be a saga to send all the routes here in a day.

    To Peralta Trailhead
7.6 miles east of the junction Idaho Rd / US-60. Turn Left on to FS77 which is Peralta Road. Follow FS77 5.6 miles to a left and up turnoff. Continue 1.9 miles to Peralta Trailhead.

The trailhead has restrooms minus running water. The parking lot is enormous. It does fill up in season on weekends. Since there are no lines, the rangers ask that you park straight between the posts in the main lot. Please do your part with this simple request and make room for the next guy. 0.5 miles before reaching the trailhead is an overflow lot, which is also suited for horse trailer parking.
