Re: 60CSX at $200 from Costco

I believe these are new (not refurbished) units. I have never known Costco to sell refurbished anything. In any event Costco has a very good return policy and I don't believe they would ever sell you anything refurbished without telling you in advance.

Re: Illegal activity near Wrightson ??

Was it full of undesirables as feared? For the record there was no sign of illegal activity anywhere on Saturday the 9th. No trash or no clothing and debris fields, no nothing. At the roundup trailhead there was moderate hiker traffic but I was the only hiker on the Vault/Aqua Caliente/Pete's route...

Illegal activity near Wrightson ??

Sun_Hiker and I are considering doing the Bearpaw Rock & Pete Mountain Loop on Saturday. See http://hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=1747

Does anyone have any information about about illegal activity in this area over the past year or so? Is it safe?

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

The recently released software version 2.6 for the 62s (and other release numbers for other models as well) seems to have corrected the odometer problem. I like to think some of my several emails I sent Garmin and posts I and others have made on the wiki site for the 62s had something to do with tha...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

Since you posted this, I played a bit with the odometer on my 60CSx. It does seem very accurate. When I don't mind burning batteries, I might use it a bit more. The 60csx works great with NiMH batteries that are cheap (at Wal-Mart) and get hundreds of reuses. They discharge on the shelf so I make s...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

Just posted this on wiki for the 62s. Also FYI software 2.50 for the 62s was just released. This morning I went walking in my neighborhood carrying the 62s and the 60csx. To simulate my usual hiking profile (especially when doing peaks – my favorite hikes) I intentionally went very slow and stopped ...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

If so, is the velocity measurement questionable at low speed? That seems to be the problem since hiking is done anywhere from 0 to 3 mph, and very slow when doing significant climbs. However, I need an explanation of why the 60csx does reasonably well at these same speeds and the 62s does not. The ...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

On the 62s model I am using the latest software which is 2.44 Beta that claimed to address odometer issues. I also use the normal setting for tracks. But there are two different issues here that need to be discussed separately. They are track based mileage and odometer based mileage and they are ver...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

Just returned from 2 wonderful weeks of hiking in New Mexico and Colorado using the 62s. All went fine with the 62s except for the odometer which consistently under reported mileage by 20 to 50 percent make it a useless and unreliable piece of information. Hanks 60CSX consistently gave more accurate...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

Joe, you have the 62s correctly categorized as an Oregon in 60CSX clothing. The innards of the 62s have a lot in common with the Oregon. Externally it looks like a 60CSX with buttons. If anyone is fond of touchscreen they should consider the Oregon. I have touchscreen on my thermostat at home and It...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

It is 10,000 points for each track. Remember it has 1.7GB free space internally and up to 32GB on a microSD card you put in. It handles giga sized everything.

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

I think the 62 is an Oregon/Dakota/Colorado with buttons which I like (not a fan of touchscreen). It has benefited greatly from solutions to problems that Garmin came up with in these models. So now I think this model is quite refined.

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

62s Initial Impressions - AWESOME It does not ship with a micro sd card so I went to Wal-Mart and got an 8GB Sandisk Class 2 Micro SDHC for $25. Works great. The first thing you notice when attaching it to you computer is that 2 new drives are created and will be in you file manager. One is labeled ...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

Here is a June 2, 2010 press release from Delorme. http://www.delorme.com//about/pressreleases/TevaMountainGames.htm This is in fact the type I will expect to see more of in the future. It seems to be a simple step to merge the two pieces of hardware into one unit. Size and weight and simplicity are...

Re: New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

Tack a SAT phone onto it (and maybe a Type II disruptor) and you've got the perfect Swiss army knife!! Current Sat phones are large and expensive. Satellite bandwidth if very very expensive and there is now way to get around that fact. However low data rate text messaging makes the idea feasible ev...

New Garmin Replacements for 60 and 76 series GPSs

Some have noticed the sales on the 60CSX models and have speculated that advanced models are probably coming out soon. They would be right about that. Here are 2 very recent Garmin press releases. New 62 Series - the 60 series replacement –June 2 http://garmin.blogs.com/pr/2010/06/garmin-unveils-gps...
