Thanks for the info every one. I should have said that I am doing a research paper on snake bites, that is why I need the books. I have another question though. I have seen a lot of different stats on the percentage of dry bites. One book says 25% of all bites are dry, another says 50%, and others s...

Snake Bites

I was wondering if anyone can recomend a few good books dealing with snakes, snake bites, and treatment and prevention of snake bites. I read ck1's article already and want to learn more. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

I just sleep with my contacts in and carry some rewetting drops for in the morning. I haven't had any problems with losing a contact either. I would rather sleep with them instead of taking them out any ways, it is just too easy to get dirt or other objects in it when taking them out.

I have a very basic camelbak, bladder in a bag, that has served me well for 5 years. I use it primarily for backpacking. The only upgrade I have had to make on it is a an extension hose so it reaches from the back of my pack, and the shut off valve. The valve came in handy when an animal chewed on t...

I would have to agree with everyone else on here so far. As the child of over protective parents myself, the only advise I could give is to maybe go on an over night trip with your parents to show them that you're able to handle yourself. If your parents don't enjoy this kind of activity you may be ...

Rogers trough trailhead

Does anyone know the condition of the road to the rogers trough trailhead? With all the rain we've been getting would it be a difficult drive?

How could you carry that much coffee to stay a wake? I would have to take a nap after hiking to the first rim :) . The real question is how painful was it and would you do it again?

Colin, if soap is a luxury for you then I don't think I want to go hiking with you . I once brought a regular cribbage board with me but I had room in my pack and wasn't carrying a large amount of water to weigh the pack down.

Backpacking gear

As an avid backpacker I was just wondering what other backpackers like to bring with them on their trips. I'm talking about luxuries since most of the necessities are going to be similar. Personally, I have to bring marshmallows for roasting after dinner. Sometimes a deck of cards is fun if you reac...

Sounds like you had a good time GTG. I remember my first over night backpacking trip, especially since I got stuck with all the water. There is no better feeling than when you get to camp and can drop a 50 pound pack off your shoulders.
