Catalina Fire-Catalina State Park
The northwest side of Catalina State Park is on fire tonight, with flames easily visible from Oracle Road. Likely affecting the 50 Year Trail area from my observation. From KVOA Tucson: A new wildfire is burning east of Oracle and Rancho Vistoso. Golder Ranch Fire officials say the Catalina Fire is ...

@sam_hikes
I saw that too last week. Maybe some sort of signal beacon for fire plane traffic?

Re: Bush Fire
@Grasshopper Thanks Hank! Looks like they used 626 as a fire line and saved the forest up there.
Maybe all those control burns on Ord’s summit over the years paid off.

Re: Two Fires In NW Tucson
There’s a good bit of smoke coming up from the upper bowl between Table and Bighorn Mountains. There’s been a steady stream of aircraft dumping water and laying out retardant lines since late morning today. View from my front door:

Re: Fish Creek Canyon tomorrow 8/23..water levels?
Has anyone happened to notice recently what the water levels are like in Fish Creek Canyon? (near/upstream of the bridge on the Apache Trail, specifically) Dry, stagnant, or flowing? Hoping to do some swimming up there soon, if there is any water left. Thanks!

I remember always hearing my friends refer to the Ellison Creek cascades area as "Cold Springs", back when I lived in Payson.

Re: 2017 Frye Fire
I'm going to assume that the majority of the forest on the mountain will become a moonscape of blackened matchsticks, as most of the photos and reports coming out seem to show extensive tree torching and plumes. I really want to see more photos from up there, and some new infrared or progression map...

Re: Post Whitewater Baldy Fire Gila Wilderness NM
@flagscott Very well then. Every forested mountain range I've cared about has had catastrophic fire damage in the last 20 years. Sure, this is all inevitable at this point, but I can't not care about these lands that are so much a part of who I am. My forests are dying and I'm devastated. This is m...

Re: Post Whitewater Baldy Fire Gila Wilderness NM
Yes, "flagscott", there is another story. Stories from local Glenwood residents I spoke with disagree with your forest service link's statement about initial suppression efforts being aggressive. Oral accounts that are not "documented". I'm not looking to get into a debate with you. But I will say t...
