Re: Fish Creek Canyon tomorrow 8/23..water levels?

Has anyone happened to notice recently what the water levels are like in Fish Creek Canyon? (near/upstream of the bridge on the Apache Trail, specifically) Dry, stagnant, or flowing? Hoping to do some swimming up there soon, if there is any water left. Thanks!

I remember always hearing my friends refer to the Ellison Creek cascades area as "Cold Springs", back when I lived in Payson.

Re: 2017 Frye Fire

I'm going to assume that the majority of the forest on the mountain will become a moonscape of blackened matchsticks, as most of the photos and reports coming out seem to show extensive tree torching and plumes. I really want to see more photos from up there, and some new infrared or progression map...

@RedRoxx44 I look forward to seeing your photos and hearing a report on your visit to Redstone and the Hummingbird Spring area. I'm hoping aspens are making a comeback up there.

Re: Post Whitewater Baldy Fire Gila Wilderness NM

@flagscott Very well then. Every forested mountain range I've cared about has had catastrophic fire damage in the last 20 years. Sure, this is all inevitable at this point, but I can't not care about these lands that are so much a part of who I am. My forests are dying and I'm devastated. This is m...

Re: Post Whitewater Baldy Fire Gila Wilderness NM

Yes, "flagscott", there is another story. Stories from local Glenwood residents I spoke with disagree with your forest service link's statement about initial suppression efforts being aggressive. Oral accounts that are not "documented". I'm not looking to get into a debate with you. But I will say t...

Re: Pinals now shut down for the summer

This had better not go the way of the Juniper Fire, which did extensive damage to an already fire damaged Sierra Ancha. Save the forests from the Forest Service. Apache Leap is doomed and so may be my beloved Pinals due to prescribed fire in May (?!). I am livid, but my voice doesn't matter to fores...

Re: FR 487

Has anyone driven up past Workman Creek Falls towards Aztec Peak this year? I know the road is usually closed officially until about early April. I called the Payson and Young ranger offices last week about the road's opening status, and both of the employees I spoke with were very vague. I don't th...

Re: Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act

For what it's worth... Resolution Copper Project Tonto National Forest is holding public workshops this week on the Resolution Copper Project, which would destroy 7,000 acres of public land, including Oak Flat, in order to build a mine. ***From what I've heard from an insider, there is a proposed ta...

It is a Globe thing.
I don't think La Casita on Broad Street (downtown) uses butter on their burros, though. Good food there, and open on Sunday, unlike Chalos.

Re: Juniper Fire closure-Sierra Ancha

The Juniper Fire appeared to be burning (spotting?) lightly on the south side of Aztec Peak and near the Carr Trailhead (upper end of Parker Creek Trail) when I was watching it from the Pinals this afternoon. These areas burned in the Coon Creek Fire in 2000.
