Re: Teton FKT runner pardoned for cutting switchbacks

@Alston_Neal
Seems doubtful that the sanction(s) on the FKT hiker/runner was to prevent their injury from scalding water...not many switchbacks immediately around the pools on my many trips there. Obviously my comment above was tongue-in-cheek.

Re: Teton FKT runner pardoned for cutting switchbacks

A quick search shows that Judge Stephanie Hambrick has a history of using judicial rulings to keep folks on the trails. In 2024 she fined actor Pierce Brosnan (Bond,James Bond) $1000 for stepping off the boardwalk in Yellowstone NP and endangering "thermal areas". Damn! A bison has FOUR l...

I am not a 'doom-and-gloomer' but the roads around there can be prone to washouts after a heavy rain - watch your forecast. Most of all, have a great trip!.

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, Dragon Bravo expansion

@Jim I think 'managed/prescribed' burns should be well-planned, which includes, among other considerations choosing an apt season for them as well as the best low-wind, cool forecast. This fire cause was 'natural' but that is no reason to think July is the best time to 'let-er-rip'. Seems that it s...

The fire was merely 10 acres by July 7 and 27 acres by July 8, according to Grand Canyon National Park social media posts. Spin as they might to project that it was 'well managed' the facts do not seem on their side.

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, Dragon Bravo expansion

Fire makes HUGE run into the Canyon Officials said this morning that the fire has made an unexpected SIX-MILE run into the Grand Canyon since yesterday, and the perimeter is now "a mile, mile-and-a-quarter" from the Colorado River in the Kagunt Drainage. Maps show large areas below the rim...

I think they should define where calf stops and cankle begins..... if not, it would likely skew the numbers.

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, Dragon Bravo expansion

From what I can gather, besides the “developed area” around the Lodge, these more noteworthy areas fall withing the 'burned' areas on the fire map. Some firsthand, boots-on-the-ground beta would be helpful moving forward, after the areas are given the all-clear. North Kaibab Trail, down to Supai Tun...

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, Dragon Bravo expansion

The Dragon Bravo Fire at the Grand Canyon is well on its way to becoming absolutely historic. Since last Tuesday, it's expanded exponentially, quintupling its size from 13,622 acres to 71,005 acres this morning. Containment dropped from 26% to 9%. Yesterday, the fire's pyrocumulus clouds reached a h...

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, lost to fire

Seems that in the 9/10 DAYS between the start of the fire and the Lodge burning, that a large portion if not all of the chlorine could have been moved off-site "as a precautionary measure" as they say. The GCNP has water disruptions all the time.. it's not an anomaly, folks are almost grow...

@xsproutx
AS in the post...... National Park Service Organic Act (16 U.S.C. l 2 3, and 4) and subsequent acts. Yellowstone has it's own deviations but was impertinent to this thread so I omitted specifically mentioning it. Yellowstone is the exception to the discretionary grazing authorization.
