Re: Forest Road 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH

.............do you think there will be water in some of the springs by now? Even though the area just received about 1/2" of rain Sat./Sun. and should leave some pools in Roger's Creek, I have always found water shortly down Fish Creek from the Frog Tanks trail. I would estimate it to be about 2 e...

Re: Sleeping bag repair

I have an idea I would like some help with if possible. Here goes..... I have a standard EE quilt and a Thermarest xtherm that I would like to mate together with velcro or zippers?? Is it possible ? Is there a glue out there that won't eat through the air pad and retain its strength enough to deal ...

Re: Packrafting trips in January

@hikeaz Packrafting isn't allowed in GCNP when there is a reasonable overland trail/route to use. For example, a buddy put in for a permit to hike out to Clear Creek, then packraft back to Bright Angel. He wasn't allowed the packrafting part, so we had to hike both out and back. That's grim.....and...

Re: Packrafting trips in January

I believe that short-trip packrafting on the Colorado in the GCNP can be done with merely a backcountry (backpacking) permit - I believe that the limit is/was 5? (river) miles- mix-an-match of mile(s) is OK. Sure would be a preferable way to get back to Tanner or Palisades after hiking out to the L....

100 yards up from BC there are a couple pools of sludge, as usual... they're pretty nasty looking.
Many thanks!!

Re: Ideas for backpack December - Jan; GC loop recommendation

...... Hikeaz, I like your idea on Tanner-S Kaibab and the tip on the sun. Maybe it is the map I'm looking at, but I'm not seeing any way to shorten the trip from Tanner then going westbound on Tonto --it looks like the only way out is Yaki point, which I think is a haul--29 miles. .....-Do I have ...

Re: Apache Trail repairs/delays/closures....

State Route 88 will close for six hours on Tuesday, Dec. 12 , near Tortilla Flat to allow the Arizona Department of Transportation to remove a boulder from an adjacent cliff. SR 88 will be closed in both directions between the Laguna Recreation Site (milepost 212) and Tortilla Flat (milepost 213) f...

Re: Ideas for backpack December - Jan; GC loop recommendation

I might suggest Tanner over to S. Kaibab - Generally less-traveled than the Hermit Loop and includes some 'interesting' hiking from time-to-time to break up the standard Tonto Trail hiking. Also this area allows you to camp up on the Tonto plateau; fantastic for star-gazing and so as to get some mor...

Re: Out of towner trying to hike Table Top

Hi, I'm not sure I'm posting this in the right forum, but anyone have any ideas on how to get to Table Top Trailhead without a car of my own? I'll be in AZ in January and would love to make this hike, but you can't take a rental car on the unpaved roads and I can't seem to find any place that would...

Needle Canyon water

Generally the Needle Canyon 'trail' holds water. Has anyone been there recently to confirm, please? This 'trail' runs east from Boulder Canyon over/through Needle Canyon. Thanks!

Honeyville freeze-dried foods

This is the place I generally use.... mix-and-match some terrific F.D. meals using the meat/TVP and vegetables without the expense and waste of the pouches. Or use the meat/TVP to 'fortify' a Knorr's 'side'.

You don't say when you have the permit for, but if before 11/30 or after 3/1 you can take the shuttle bus out to Hermit's Rest and back. Times vary..... https://www.nps.gov/grca/planyourvisit/hermit-road.htm
