Re: Royal Arch rappel to Toltec - Hand line still there?

@hikeaz -- LOL - yeah, I've ogled that drop, and I hope to take the canyoneering route to Elves one day, ideally as part of a repeat of the Pt. Huitzil Route. Sounds like we'll probably cross paths on Monday. It would be great to meet you! Safe travels to you as well.

Re: Royal Arch rappel to Toltec - Hand line still there?

@hikeaz -- Thanks for the quick reply (and sorry for not being clear on direction of travel). We're hiking as if doing the full clockwise RA loop hike, but we're just going to hike to the Arch and then back out - with aforementioned potential side trip to Elves. So, we'll be rapping down that wall ...

Royal Arch rappel to Toltec - Hand line still there?

To anyone who has been there *recently*, Is there a knotted hand line at the short rappel above Toltec Beach? I ask, because I'm leading an out-and-back trek to Royal Arch, and I'd like to throw in a day hike to Elves Chasm before we retrace out steps from the Arch to the South Bass trailhead. Of co...

Re: Accessing Cobra Arch from within Buckskin Gulch

you avoid the nasty sand slog that is the rest of the trail to/from Cobra Arch Thanks, Rob. Reports of the deep sand were giving me...pause. ;) I'll go back to trying to work this into our itinerary! Off trail travel, route finding and navigation are becoming much more desirable than coloring insid...

Re: Accessing Cobra Arch from within Buckskin Gulch

Thanks @chumley. It was quite a few years ago when I went through Buckskin, but we ended up pulling out prematurely for our first night's camp, and I suspect we did that at the Middle Trail access point. It was a scramble, but nothing terrible. I'll give this some thought. Thanks again!

Accessing Cobra Arch from within Buckskin Gulch

Has anyone ever tried to clamber out of Buckskin Gulch, trek to see Cobra Arch, maybe camp up top, and then drop back into the slot to complete the loop hike? I get these really bad ideas sometimes...

Re: Shuttle service from Flag to GC?

Well, thanks anyway, AZBackpackr! We'll self-shuttle if we have to, but if anyone else out there has a line on someone who wants to make some extra cake in October, please let me know. TIA

Re: Shuttle service from Flag to GC?

I spoke with Betty some weeks ago, and she no longer goes into GCNP, owing apparently to some disagreement with the rangers about permits. Bummed about that. AZBackpackr, our itinerary has us driving up to Lipan Point (GC) on Friday Oct. 24. Please let me know if there's any chance that would work f...

Shuttle service from Flag to GC?

Does anyone know of a driver near GC who might offer shuttle service from South Rim to Hopi Salt Trail on the Navajo rez? Willing to pay a reasonable amount, but not the $150 per head (times six) that one of the professional services quoted me. #featherpluckininsane :? Trip is in October. TIA for an...

Re: injury in Salome Jug

Couldn't agree more with nonot, that using the rappel anchor from the hucking spot is way cleaner than running the gauntlet of the waterfall rap. I've been through The Jug twice, and both times members of our group lost shoes in the waterfall crack. Come the Fourth of July there must be a Dr. Seussi...

Nankoweap Trail, AZ :: Exposed Section

Hey kids, looking for a piece of advice or observation about Nankoweap . I'm leading a group next month and would like to know if anyone can tell me how the exposed section(s) to Marion Point compare with the exposure on Beamer up to LCR. Sounds to me like the footing is mostly good, but the visual ...

Re: Blue Ridge Reservoir

Heading up to Blue Ridge tomorrow to get a break from the heat. Hiking Piestewa at 105°today was fun and all, but.. (And yeah, we're all still calling it Blue Ridge) We'll be taking the canoe, some camping gear, canned beer, gps and good company. Hopefully there are still some beach camps available ...
