Re: Lyrid Meteor Shower 2012
Well, a disappointing showing for us. But the stars were amazing, so it was nice to lay in my sleeping bag looking for meteors. Hope the next one will be a bit better, but still a fun excuse to drive to the dunes and stay up all night. :) Same here, spent 6 hours out at Roper Lake State Park and wa...

I can't remember ever seeing/hearing lightning in January before out here!!! Woke up today to see that the storm added a new layer of snow on Mt Graham. Anyone else...

Re: Invasive Species
I noticed that elk populations are not listed to be in the Pinalenos I have never seen elk in the Pinalenos, but it is my understanding that the western slopes has a herd of 50+ now and last year several were seen up on top at Riggs Flat lake. Also, G&F has been issuing out elk hunt permits for uni...

I have been traveling with my SPOT II for almost 1 year now and will definitely be renewing it for another. I have used it many times in the woods & canyons (nothing super thick/deep) and have never had a failed transmission. However, I will not be renewing the tracking feature as I have found it to...

Re: Monsoon chatter
Huge rain storms over Safford last night! We've been getting lots of lightning shows over the Gila valley almost every night for the last few weeks, but not much rain with them until now. We had a nice steady rain that started at dusk and lasted well into the early morning. It was so nice, I slept a...

Re: Feral Cat Problem at Gilbert Riparian Preserve
I took this pic of a fox relaxing on a neighbors car while visiting my brother in Gilbert a few months ago. He lives 3 miles from the preserve and told me that there are 4 living in his neighborhood.
