Re: Route Scout - GPS Topo Mapper

Looks like I have version 5.2.7. Didn't know that was released.

Re: Route Scout - GPS Topo Mapper

Who wrote this wonderful code/app? I've had some trouble getting my current version to exit, maybe the update will help with that. Are there routes outside of arizona available for import? The only complaint I have is that I have to carry an extra aux battery, as my phone can only last ~ 5hrs runnin...

Re: USGS Survey Markers??

Ah, I needed to hit the "get datasheet" button below - duh. But there is only a data sheet for the entry labeled DU286, and none for the CHxxxx entries returned with the initial search. This URL just takes you back to the search page: https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_desig.prl even though that is...

Re: USGS Survey Markers??

Anyone know how to find the information from the survey?
I've searched
https://www.ngs.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/ds_desig.prl
and found info that didn't include elevation information
For example CH5531 was set in 1946 and only includes Lat and Long info, but no elevation info.
Is that all I should expect?

Re: Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

I haven't been down the chute, so I can't compare the two ends. However, I wouldn't want to descend from the head of Siphon Draw without having ascended it first. I've done Flatiron several times and 5057 several times and decided that I'd rather cope with the downhill portion of 5057 rather than t...

Re: Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

@big_load
This is on the other end of the Ridgeline - near 5057, not 5024.
That picture doesn't seem like the chute I'm talking about.
The post below by friendofThunder seems to have nailed it.

Re: Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

@friendofThundergod I think that is it. My memory of the different sections gets corrupted, I'm finding. The way I got up this one is that there was a crevice - horizontal V shaped just to the left of the chute. I was able to wedge myself into the V to get some height up and then a step around the ...

Re: Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

I've got a Garmin GPS route, but I'm not sure how to link it here. (.gpx file) I'll try a link to my OneDrive. Picture of the route in question. http://1drv.ms/21ocPD2 There was a trail that looked like it went around this last mountain, but it was deviating from the official route, so we turned bac...

Re: Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

I finally hiked the Ridgeline from Lost Dutchman State Park ending at Carney Springs on Sunday. 10.5 hrs - ouch. I'll post a trip log shortly but was wondering if anyone has pictures of the "Rock Wall" that needed to be climbed just before reaching the 5057 area? Really wanted a picture of that last...

Re: Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

Very nice! Thanks. That answers my questions.

Just one last question. I've been calling the eastern peak "Superstition Peak" and have no name for the Western peak.
Do you know if they have names other than 5057 (by Carney) and 5024 (by flatiron)?
Thanks,
Tom

Re: Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

I was hoping to post a copy of my TopoUSA view of the ridgeline trail to make sure I knew which peaks you were referring to. I've got 4790 as about 4765 and it is the peak just NW of Superstition Peak (I think 5040 is called superstition peak). Then quite a ways west, I have a 4815 peak (not quite 4...

Re: Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

I think that is a reasonable estimate. I recently determined that it was more than a Grand Canyon South Rim hike from Kaibab to Bright Angel via Phantom.

Superstition Ridgeline Hike - where is the exposure point?

Hi, I've made it about a mile or two on the ridgeline after coming up siphon draw and I've made it from Carney to Superstition Mountain (5070), but I didn't encounter the area where people say there is a little exposure. Can someone point this out to me? gps coordinates or something? Also, in lookin...

Re: Superstition Mountain Summit

You guys are awesome! Yes - that wasn't what I crossed over. On the otherhand, it was a pretty trail and we did quite a bit of trail clean up. Some moron shot a box of 100 shells and some smaller ammo and just left the empty shells on the ground as well as the box it came in (plus a broken glass bee...

Re: Superstition Mountain Summit

Is there any signage at the correct cross over point? Because when we did cross over, there was a trail coming from the south that led me to believe we had met up with it. Which is strange. But I'm 99.99% sure we crossed over too soon because once at the cliffs, we had to travel west quite a way. Th...

Re: Superstition Mountain Summit

Most likely. The Fence still had the lower wire or two still intact, so most likely this sure wasn't an official trail.
Thanks for the info!

Re: Superstition Mountain Summit

Hi Everyone, I was trying to find the trailhead up to the superstition mountain summit today and am not sure if I did or not. I parked in the Lost Goldmine Parking lot and took the trail along the fence until I saw a sign on the fence warning that exploring mines was dangerous. It took about 20 mins...
