Re: Weatherford loop backpacking?

Thanks for the feedback. We are thinking on whether to cache or not. If we didn't cache we'd probably carry 8 liters between us. If we do cache I figure i'd do it close to the snowbowl parking lot being as we'd start from Shultz Tank.

Weatherford loop backpacking?

Is there a trail listing on hike AZ for the Weatherford loop? If seen it called that or the Kachina peaks wilderness loop. I can't seem to find a listing for either on hike AZ. I'm trying to get all the info I can on the loop including water sources.

Using the search function to find backpacking?

I seem to remember a few years ago you could search for backpacking loops or routes, does that function not exist anymore?

Backpacking close to Flagstaff

Hi all, just moved back to Flagstaff after living on the east coast for 6 year. We also just finished our thru hike of the Colorado Trail last week! I didn't backpack hardly at all when I lived in Flag before, now i want to do it all the time! I'm looking for some recommendations for trips that are ...

Need ideas for 3 day backpacking trip.

Hi, it's been awhile since I've been on AZ hiking. My wife and I are on a road trip in our rv and working our way down to AZ. We'd like to go on a backpacking trip for my birthday. The GC is our first choice but I don't know if we are going to be able to get a permit. I'll fill out all the info and ...

Re: Geocachers in Flagstaff?

I got the hang of it now. I've found 4 geocaches around town. I'm enjoying the challenge of navigation and its renewed my interest in hiking which of late has been waning.

Re: Geocachers in Flagstaff?

Go to Geocaching.com and create a free user name then browse for caches in your area. If you look it up on your computer, it's even more impressive. This site has more than a million caches listed around the world. I frequently combine my hiking and geocaching outings for a little more enjoyment. G...

Geocachers in Flagstaff?

I finally just bought one of those smart phones and it has a built in GPS. I've always wanted to try geocaching so I downloaded the c:geo app from the Android market and tried to find a few caches. There are 3 close to my house and I've had no luck. I don't know if I'm not using the app right or I j...

Re: Car camping around Blue Ridge Reservoir?

I always like the southern side of the reservoir. Take the Rim Road and drive up Battleground Ridge (FR 123) to the end of the road near the pumping station. There's a nice trail down to the lake from there (Rock Crossing), or you can go cross-country down just about anywhere. The hilltop is plenty...

Car camping around Blue Ridge Reservoir?

My wife and I are wanting to try out our new camping hammocks. We were thinking of car camping around the Blue Ridge Reservoir. Does anyone know if there are any car camping spots out that way? Maybe close enough to walk to the water? Also we were thinking of trying FS 95 out by Kinder Crossing. Any...

Looking to check the current weather a fossil springs

My wife and I are planning an overnighter down into fossil in the next few weeks. I'd like to be able to check the weather forcast ahead of time. I'm not sure where to check though. Payson and strawberry are both a couple thousand feet higher. Would looking at Camp Verdes weather give me a good idea...

Re: Need a little help finding these bodies of water.

Chevelon is 13 miles of dirt road from near Heber. Chevelon is written up on here: http://www.hikearizona.com/decoder.php?ZTN=782 You can bushwhack in there and swim but there is no official trail. It is pretty much bushwhacking, and it ought to stay that way, IMO. I am not in favor of publicizing ...

Re: Need a little help finding these bodies of water.

Thanks for the help. The vague names I have don't help much. I just asked for some more info and should hopefully get that soon so I can start pin pointing this locations. I definitely think the rock is referring to bell Trail. The Box is probably going to be Christopher creek. Chevelon is the creek...
