Re: Atmosphere Comparison

@chumley
Ah Ok then... how about:

"Lorena cut sharply from her expected path, leaving only a small reminder that she was there. For those affected, however, the scars will remain forever."

Just a first draft, could use some polishing for sure...

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

@chumley
You're probably too young, but for those of us who grew up in the 80s, "Lorena took a sharp left..." has potential for a good joke.

Not the same as a Rocky Mountain high, I am guessing.

Mission accomplished. Just do the opposite of whatever Coach Rode would do.

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, lost to fire

@SuperstitionGuy Well we're really talking about National Park Service personnel, not USFS personnel, I heard they have higher living standards. Looks like they had a water treatment facility and a number of administrative buildings that presumably at least some of them are for the purpose of suppo...

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, lost to fire

Good questions. I could see them closing access to the North Rim NPS land entirely for a time, while they assess damage and rebuild infrastructure. I am guessing similar things have happened at other National Parks that might give us a clue? The North Rim is somewhat unique though in its remoteness,...

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, lost to fire

@FOTG Unfortunately I fear you may be right. I always stop at the Jacob Lake Inn when going to the North Rim. It's a neat place, cool history, and of course I like to support them, but it's not a destination per se. If the North Rim closes for a couple years I - and I suspect thousands of others li...

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, lost to fire

I guess they're taking advantage of the North Rim closure and are just going to let the fire burn straight up 67. Should make for a nice scenic drive consisting of miles of burned forest, should they decide to reopen the North Rim someday.

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, lost to fire

I wouldn't be terribly shocked if there's a water issue soon at the South Rim. The fire looks to have gotten down into Roaring Springs Canyon. Didn't quite make it to the pumphouse as far as I can tell, thankfully, at least for now. I assume the power for the pumphouse comes from the North Rim? Hope...

Re: 2025 Arizona Fire Season

Ugh satellites are showing fire from Dragon Bravo in the North Rim campground and down by the lodge area. Hopefully they are small or false signals.

Webcams suggest a lot of smoke still pouring into the canyon.

Looks like Jacob Lake proper dodged the bullet though?

@chumley
I love that Valley Camps meal, too. Goes well with freeze dried chianti.
