Nice area, likely to be overrun soon enough.

Re: 2022 Fire Season

The rains seem to have done the trick on the Fish fire.

Contreras fire burned over Kitt Peak. Appears a few structures lost but the telescopes are ok.

Re: 2022 Fire Season

IDK if the picture looks overly alarming, Sorry I should have been clear, I was just posting a pic of the smoke, not trying to alarm anyone. This was actually in the morning just before I went through Alpine the first time. When I first went through, Alpine wasn't all that smoky, the smoke was more...

Re: 2022 Fire Season

Inciweb syas the Fish fire is 909 acres, maybe true but Apline was socked in hard with smoke yesterday afternoon. Seemed like a lot of smoke for less than 1000 acres, but I am not even an internet expert, so who knows. The Blue River area south of 60/E of 191 was too smoky to enjoy camping. Meanwhil...

Re: 2022 Fire Season

There's some kind of fire activity showing on VIIRS and MODIS about 3.5 miles west of Hannigan Meadow.

Re: 2022 Fire Season

Not showing up on MODIS or VIIRS. They must have gotten it extinguished? Nothing active showing for the San Rafael fire either.

Hmm ADEQ suggests it's a prescribed burn.

Fire in Galiuros Feb 2022... Prescribed Burn

Looks like a fire in the Galiuros pretty close to Power's cabin? Saw a lot of smoke while driving near Winkleman. Inciweb not showing anything last I looked, but you can see it on VIIRS.

Edit: fixed autocorrect from incident to inciweb

@Jim_H
No point really. Just thought it was an interesting background, so I thought others might find it interesting as well. Cal Tech is a pretty impressive place from which to earn a degree, then to end up like she has.

Also read elsewhere that she has a degree from Cal Tech.

I saw a mini Cooper on that road a few years ago. Pretty far in, too. Pretty amazing. By "pretty amazing", I mean, it's pretty amazing how stupid humans can be.

Re: 2021 Fire Season

@chumley
Hoping you are correct and the burn isn't too bad. Crummy start to the fire season either way. Here's hoping the folks who are living in the area are safe and can return soon to undamaged homes.

Re: 2021 Fire Season

This really sucks. Viirs & Modis are showing the Telegraph fire right up on the southern edge of Picketpost; most of AZT #17 affected.

Re: Mask Mandate On Federal Lands?

This is from the executive order, it says should all wear mask, does not say shall. also refers back to CDC guidelines. Well the "should" part comes only in Section 1, the "policy" part of the order. Section 1 is really just outlining the rationale for the order. Section 2 is wh...

Re: Mask Mandate On Federal Lands?

@Jim_H I don't think anyone can link to the order until it gets posted by the White House. Probably will be available tomorrow. As for the term "federal property and lands", I don't understand the confusion. The President's coordinator of coronavirus response Jeff Zients said that mask us...

Re: The Great American Outdoors Act

Perhaps Instead of a $35 for 7 days for a car load at Grand Canyon or Zion, Make it a daily fee of something like $15 per person. $75 per day just to get in the door, for a family of 5 trying to cobble together a vacation and visit some national parks that their taxes allegedly help pay for? I'm so...
