North Carolina
Searching, I found that I made this same request around 5 years ago, but I finally did move to the Raleigh, NC area. Anyone know if there is something similar to HAZ out here? I'm not looking for hiking partners or anything, just info on trails, etc. Thanks.

Yeah.....looks like plans are changing. Thanks for the tips. We're going to look for something closer to town. Kayaks + really cold + 55mph wind = no fun.

Re: Blue Ridge AZT Section and Blue Ridge Reservoir
Don't need a boat launch, just some place where we can walk down to the water reasonably close to either the road or a trail that I can take my Jeep on.

Blue Ridge AZT Section and Blue Ridge Reservoir
A buddy and I are talking about heading up there this weekend for some camping/hiking/kayaking. I see that the campgrounds are closed and that's fine, I prefer to camp away from everything. I'm wondering if we're allowed to camp around the reservoir, if it's still open for boating/fishing, where we ...

Re: Suprise, suprise
We're also thinking about finding a river and parking at point a, kayaking down to point b, camping, kayaking to point c, locking up the kayaks, hiking back to point a, and then driving back to point c to pick up the boats. Is that possible w/ marble canyon? is there places to camp along the side? i...

I'm looking for a hike! Didn't see that one coming, did you? I have come here to tap into that infinite mass of knowledge that is the collective HAZ community. Here's what I'm looking for: A buddy and I are planning on taking out our kayaks in a couple weeks, we'd like someplace cool (temp not aweso...

Re: If & Where
If I could hike anywhere without restrictions? I'd probably hike down to the Chevy dealer and get me a brand new 1-ton diesel. Of course, only as long as Joe Bartels is there to ride shotgun.

So it's looking like Goldwater. Anyone been there? Suggestions? Comments? We're planning on leaving Phoenix Friday and coming back on Sunday.

Alright, it's time to quiz the brain-trust that is HAZ. I've convinced my wife to go "camping" for our anniversary in the middle of May. I say "camping" because i'm looking for a nice campgrounds preferably with at least outhouses. I haven't been to a campground in over 12 years,...
Running
For various reasons I'm working on being able to run distance. Not very far - 2 miles or so. Key is, non-stop. This may sound like a stupid question, but I'm looking for advice on how to get there. Should I run every day? Every other day? I can't currently run for the whole time, I have to walk ever...

Re: Kayak
"Perk" in the sense that "Backpacking" or "Canyoneering" are perks (see Hike Indexes). Basically access to enough water to use a kayak.

Kayak
How about kayaking as a perk? I've started hiking w/ my kayak - either setting up a base camp and hiking some and kayaking some or strapping my pack to my kayak - paddling out, hiking, camping, hiking back to my kayak, and paddling back to my truck. That was a large sentence. Anyways, just a thought...

Re: What's your Ultralight?
That's kind of the point though, you're comfortable with your 30+ pounds. There's no reason to try to go lighter. I'm a sissy. I don't want to carry any more than I have to... You're ultralight is near 30 pounds. I've carried loads from 20 or so pounds (total) to 55 or 60 pounds for a two day trip....

I'm looking for a used one somewhere in the "free" to "cheap" range. Hopefully something that still floats. If anybody knows of anything, let me know. Also, I'm on another forum for Jeeps and they have a "for sale/wanted/free" forum. Could we get one of those? Do we nee...
