Re: FR 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH
Jim McDade Scoutmaster of Troop 451 sponsered by the Methodist Church in Mesa, Arizona drove his Troops School Bus (54 passenger} to the Rogers Through Trailhead and negotiated that last hairpin turn after a few backups successfully. This was done in the 1980's and I asked him if he unloaded the boy...

There is ample traffic on 172 and 172A this time of year that will stop and render aid, so put your fears aside and go for it. Just report back to us and share your experience.

Rogers Trough Trailhead to the Salt River? I used to hike this route taking my 14+ age Scouts backpacking from the Rogers Trough Trailhead to the Apache Trail bridge where it intersects with Fish Creek. This was done in three days as it gave us time to explore along the way. The first time you backp...

Re: Hackberry Spring
Only fools would use this spring as the pipes that supplies the water does not go back to the source of the water but instead takes it's water from the exposed pool itself. Next time you go there look and see, the pool is exposed to the air and every animal including humans that use it. There are a ...

@ShatteredArm
Thank you for that comment.
The second week in April the apple trees will be loaded with blossoms as well.
Its a great time to visit the Ranch and surrounding area.

Re: Getting to the Reavis Ranch 109 North Trailhead
@big_load Wally hiked it in March 11 of 2023. I assume he drove up from SR88 to the railhead and he never mentioned any washouts of the road so I assume it is still ok to drive on. I just read the last six HAZ trips to Reavis Falls. They also did not mention any difficluties driving up to the traih...

Re: Getting to the Reavis Ranch 109 North Trailhead
109 North is an old road, now considered a trail and it is mostly high country and difficlult to hike when it is windy. Thus it can be quite boring at times, however if your planning on a side trip to Reavis Falls I would reccomend you take this route to the Reavis Ranch area. You may want to consid...

SR 88 at Tortilla Flat is open but when I left Apache Junction this morning the sign said "Road Closed beyond Tortilla Flat".
Sounds like the State Government doesn't know what they are doing. Nothing new about that.....

Tortilla Flat / Tortilla creek
I would like to take my visitors from Minnesota out there today or Monday and drive to the end of highway 88 and back.
Has anyone been out there within the last 24 hours and can report if the road is closed where Tortilla creek crosses highway 88?

Plan for two routes depending upon the weather.
IE one for sunny and clear days and one for rainy or cold weather.

Yes but it will be fun watching a exoskeleton hiker that is out of control calling for help with his whatever device for rescue.

After checking your previous backpacking locations I was surprised that you have never visited the Superstitions. I used to guide older boy Scouts on five and six day backpack trips thru the Superstitions during the Christmas breaks. I could recommend routes that include loops or I could be availabl...
