Re: Atmosphere Comparison

After mostly being missed by the fall rain, we got our first snow that stuck, up here in Eagar. We were supposed to get only 1/2 inch, but it looks more like 2 inches out there. Brr. I'm trying to enjoy it. I'm so used to spending my winters in the desert, summers in the mountains. Very spoiled. Had...

Honestly have no idea who you're talking about. Not even the slightest clue. I racked my brain but can't remember anyone fitting that description.

Truly wish I could be there. Enjoyed visiting with you. Maybe I can get out and hike Flat Top that day, and give you a call from the summit, haha!

Re: Take out your insoles?

@TooOld2Hike_EP Tried liner socks back in the 70s. Too slippery! Doesn't matter what they are made from, if they are made to be slippery, they make my feet slip around inside of the wool socks I put on over them. Not a good feeling AT ALL, and contributed to blisters. I do always switch out my inso...

Re: The rare Southern Arizona bird has a new name but the same old sound.

The Bird-Naming people claim to have the power to change bird names. They are not going to ask us how we feel about it, (let alone the birds.) They don’t care if we've misspent a lifetime trying to learn the names, only to have to start all over. It's a travesty, I tell you, and would be front page ...

Re: Wildflowers

I tot I taw a putty tat. Hope the wildflower thing happens. I'll enjoy the photos. Unfortunately, this will be the first winter since 2012-2013 that I am spending away from the desert. I'm intensely missing Yuma and Needles right now. I doubt I will be able to go down there. Watch for cross country ...

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

That's great, and sounds like sorta scary fun, @Alston_Neal huddled in your cozy RV. I can relate!

I am pretty sure we won't be getting a deluge here in Eagar. I think it's just going to be a bit of rain and a sprinkle of snow over several days.

Re: Salt River Canyon Wilderness Rafting

@GrangerGuy Would be fun indeed. March 23 is my birthday, and my first ever rafting trip was a day run on my 50th birthday in 2003. I organized groups several times after that, usually on my birthday. Always wanted to do that multi-day trip but never got around to it. Did plenty of Grand Canyon raf...

Re: Hiking Boots

I have Altra Timps waterproof hightops. I haven't tried them with snow, however. I don't fit in most shoe brands, so these do for me. I require a hightop due to extremely narrow feet that "fall out of" sneaker-type shoes. The Timps have a roomy toebox, a narrow heel, and are zero drop. All...

Ok, I get it! You didn't have to send it back, so you still have it to offer to someone who might like to have it. I'm glad they replaced it for you! :)

Re: Giveaway: A slightly broken backpack (2019 Baltoro 65)

@TooOld2Hike_EP A lot of these companies allow you to send the item back to them and they will repair it for a small cost, or sometimes even replace the whole thing. Have you looked into that? I know that Thermarest (Cascade Designs) is amazing. I have not bought a new Thermarest in over a decade a...

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

Steady moderate rain in Eagar, the past hour or so. We didn't receive the early wave yesterday. I just heard that the LCR at Cameron, which is running at over 4400 cfs, is at its highest value ever recorded for this date. Being on a river trip or backpacking trip in Grand Canyon right now would be.....

Nothing in Eagar yet. It's supposed to rain this afternoon, overnight, and tomorrow, but the radar shows the plume way to the west of us.

Globe / Miami Flooding

Everything I'm seeing and reading, they need people with shovels to show up and help dig out the destroyed parts of Globe and Miami, but plan on sleeping in your car. There is nowhere for you to get a room. La Casita Mexican Restaurant is a total loss. I heard the LDS Church is sending a crew of 800.
