Re: Atmosphere Comparison

A few drops here in Eagar, but I think the higher peaks got more. Hopefully we will do all right with the next wave of moisture coming in, mainly on Saturday.

Re: Summit Hut is closing

@SpiderLegs Where would you have located the main store? Is REI in a better location due to being at the mall? Malls aren't doing that well these days. I remember you saying the Oro Valley location of SH was a particularly bad idea. A funny: the original owner used to call it the Stomach Hut, to hi...

@SpiderLegs
Meanwhile, the original owner is happily living in an exclusive enclave in the Rincons, and doing lots of outdoor stuff. He retired at a good moment, it seems.

Re: Dragon Bravo Personnel

Not that it makes any difference regarding the topic, but I have met Ed Keable several times and talked to him. He goes on a river trip every year, and I was always involved in transporting his group. He is very likeable. Appointed as an outsider, for a reason, during the previous Trump Administrati...

Summit Hut is closing

The Summit Hut in Tucson, in business for over 50 years, is closing. The owners (2nd owners) say they can't compete in today's market. They are having a huge sale, needless to say. I'm sad about this, although I haven't lived in Tucson for a long time. I did buy some good stuff there over the years....

If they continue to allow this, the maps will become very crowded with useless naming.

@DixieFlyer
They've been saying that for days, so it's hard to know if it's just more click bait or not. I guess I should study the maps. I look at a lot of stuff on my phone. Can't see the maps on that screen. Need to look when I'm on my laptop.

Re: North Rim Dragon Bravo fire

They brought in the big guns yesterday. Five LATs (large air tankers), one VLAT (very large air tanker.) The fire had grown by 11,000 acres in one day, and is now well over 100,000. It's evening, so a new assessment should be coming out soon.

Re: North Rim Dragon Bravo fire

Latest from another page I follow:

"DragonBravoFire now 94,228 acres, up approx 33 square miles from yesterday.

For a sense of scale, New York's Manhatten Island is 23 sq. mi.

It is now ten miles closer to Jacob Lake than it is to the North Rim developed area."

Visible from Mormon Lake! I saw an amazing photo.

BLM has closed lands around it, such as south House Rock Valley. Info here: https://www.blm.gov/announcement/blm-ar ... bravo-fire

@Jim Lake Mead is forecast to dip even lower than it already is over the coming 2 years. They will hold back water in Powell and sacrifice Mead, if I'm not mistaken. River rafting at 6,000 cfs and below can be dangerous in Grand Canyon. The company I worked for quit running the hardshell dories the...

@FOTG
A bit more rain in the forecast here (I'm in Eagar) this week. We'll take what we can get. We had a nice steady overnight rain last week, and several other showers.

The LCR is running again, but not a lot.

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, Dragon Bravo expansion

@Jim Inciweb did not do an evening update. Watch Duty app did. They are saying 50,000 acres, up from about 45,000. They downgraded containment from 26% to 13%. It's going into the Saddle Mountain Wilderness. It's crowning on some pretty significant old forest. Not a "helpful" fire. Yester...
