Re: Moab Suggestions
@Watauga @trekkin_gecko I'm moving there in early March for a summer seasonal job, so I'm reading this with interest. I've been there quite a few times, but mainly for kayaking the Green and Colorado rivers. But I have hiked in the La Sals. That's a summer hike, in case you find yourself there at a...

@andrewp
In the past Hutch's pool has filled up with black sludge and silt after a big fire, but it all washed away and the pool was nice again a couple years later. I haven't been up there for a few years myself.

Re: Any recent water sightings in Sabino Basin (AZT passage 11)?
@andrewp A friend went on the ATA survey hike to document trail damage, a couple weeks ago, and said there is sludgy water in Hutch's. They walked the closed areas from Marshall Gulch to Romero Pass to Hutch's, and then out via Sycamore. I can ask her where else they found water. It may take a day ...

Yes I saw it yesterday. Pretty scruffy-looking.
So, is it Scrubby, Shrubby, or Scruffy? The article claims it's Scrubby.

Maybe there is a Scrubby I and a Scrubby II. (There may be a feral Scrubby as well!)

I remember going there on a SAHC hike, probably 23 years ago or so. What I remember is that I thought it would be a nice place for a quick backpacking trip. I seem to recall getting there from near the Bear Canyon picnic area, the same as the GPS route you linked.

Re: Favorite HAZ Sub-Region?
@azlaurie anyone backpack? Black River from Bear Creek to Wildcat Crossing, Alpine Region I think. (I'm not going to bother with looking for the subregion. Not something I pay attention to.) I call it the Black River Wade, because you cross the river about every 10 minutes. Also anywhere in Grand Ca...

Okay, thanks. That's kind of what I thought, because it seems that local backpackers I know who post on social media have been going elsewhere.

So I take it that Wilderness of Rocks area has reopened? I haven't been following the news about what's open and what isn't. But I will be moving to Tucson for two or three months on about December 3rd.

@inthesticks
Watch for side trails well before you get to that spot. There are "use trails" leading to those campsites.

Weird, because over here in Blythe, which is typically as hot or hotter, they recorded only 81. (Pretty soon I'll be relocating to chilly Tucson!)

I read them on the REI website. I just looked down at the bottom of the page and told it that I wanted to see all the reviews with one and two stars. Mainly it seems that there is no satellite reception, even when standing out in the open, at times, for some users.

Re: inReach Mini Bundle on sale COSTCO
@wildwesthikes I did really think I wanted one of those, but I have just read way too many bad reviews. I wouldn't mind hearing comments by people who own one, specifically the mini. I have seen the regular one work just fine. I have also seen a SPOT texting device break (broken switch) when it was...

Re: Herpetology Bedding Set
@KwaiChang Why are people so angry? Spoiled rich people. I have zero sympathy for them. They should go try to live in Honduras or Nigeria for awhile. Then maybe they could learn to be completely grateful for everything we have. So selfish and arrogant. I am one who believes strongly that most peopl...

Re: Herpetology Bedding Set
@KwaiChang I am planning a road trip to Florida in Feb. Bringing my kayak, staying just a few miles east of Crystal River State Park at a friend's place. I've been doing a bunch of networking online with paddlers there. Thinking I may want to spend a winter there sometime in the future, also. Keepi...
