Re: Atmosphere Comparison

Steady moderate rain in Eagar, the past hour or so. We didn't receive the early wave yesterday. I just heard that the LCR at Cameron, which is running at over 4400 cfs, is at its highest value ever recorded for this date. Being on a river trip or backpacking trip in Grand Canyon right now would be.....

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

@Nighthiker
Nothing in Eagar yet. It's supposed to rain this afternoon, overnight, and tomorrow, but the radar shows the plume way to the west of us.

Globe / Miami Flooding

Everything I'm seeing and reading, they need people with shovels to show up and help dig out the destroyed parts of Globe and Miami, but plan on sleeping in your car. There is nowhere for you to get a room. La Casita Mexican Restaurant is a total loss. I heard the LDS Church is sending a crew of 800.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

We had a nice rain today in Eagar, but I doubt it was an inch. Springerville airport recorded a little less than 1/4 inch. I'm sure some spots got more, because it looked like a spotty kind of storm. I took the opportunity to nap and read a book. Very relaxing.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

thought they were in some weird black hole separated from the rest of the world completely That very common and popular belief keeps most central Arizonans away from the river, which is a good thing, because everyone from Canada, the northern tier states, Utah and all of California know it as a hav...

@Pivo Anna Knochel attack in 1996 My daughter was there! 4H club had rented Camp Lawton. She didn't actually see it happen, but heard all the screaming and gun shots. There was an adult at the camp who'd brought a handgun, left it in his car. He ran up to the parking lot, which is not close by, got ...

I have gotten that permit, twice, through the County, although it was more than 25 years ago. That was when that parking lot was new.

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

Right, because "Arizona" is only located in the Valley of the Sun. The fact that the entire western side of the state got slammed, damaged, flashflooded, power out, trees downed, record rainfall, etc. etc., doesn't matter, because Kingman, Yuma, Bullhead and Parker are actually part of Cal...

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

A few drops here in Eagar, but I think the higher peaks got more. Hopefully we will do all right with the next wave of moisture coming in, mainly on Saturday.

@SpiderLegs Where would you have located the main store? Is REI in a better location due to being at the mall? Malls aren't doing that well these days. I remember you saying the Oro Valley location of SH was a particularly bad idea. A funny: the original owner used to call it the Stomach Hut, to hi...

Meanwhile, the original owner is happily living in an exclusive enclave in the Rincons, and doing lots of outdoor stuff. He retired at a good moment, it seems.

Not that it makes any difference regarding the topic, but I have met Ed Keable several times and talked to him. He goes on a river trip every year, and I was always involved in transporting his group. He is very likeable. Appointed as an outsider, for a reason, during the previous Trump Administrati...

Summit Hut is closing

The Summit Hut in Tucson, in business for over 50 years, is closing. The owners (2nd owners) say they can't compete in today's market. They are having a huge sale, needless to say. I'm sad about this, although I haven't lived in Tucson for a long time. I did buy some good stuff there over the years....

If they continue to allow this, the maps will become very crowded with useless naming.
