@cactuscat
The streets were flooded all over town. There's a cool YouTube video. It was some storm!

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

Long thunderstorm centered here in Flagstaff has now tapered off to a steady rain. It's been going on for a couple hours.

@chumley
Looks like Havasu Creek flashed again today. Don't know about Diamond since it apparently broke the gauge.

Re: Havasupai Flash Flood July 2018

Downstream from Havasu Creek, Diamond Creek flashed yesterday on the Hualapai Reservation. Data page shows 4500 cfs, but also, the gauge seems to now be busted. Usual flow is about 3 or 4. The beach there at the Colorado River is an important take-out for Grand Canyon river trips, although not the o...

Re: Animals: Collective Group Names

Interesting words, many of the older English, where there are consonants heard fore and aft, with vowels in the middle: sedge, grist, pack, etc.

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

A bit of rain in Flag midday. Then I went to NW Arizona, to Pearce Ferry. Very bad windstorm, with an enormous black cloud bank over the Grand Wash Cliffs. I decided a motel room would be the prudent and more comfortable choice, instead of a pup tent. So, back to Meadview I went. I have to go back t...

Re: Apache Sitegreaves Backpacking Ideas

@lhalloran
I used to know Wendy when I lived in Eagar. And yes, Bear Creek is a good starting point. Lots of swimming holes, both up and downstream from there. Make sure your people have hiking poles, and shoes they can hike in wet. I can't emphasize poles enough.

Re: Apache Sitegreaves Backpacking Ideas

Hiking upstream or downstream from Wildcat Crossing on the Black River Mainstem is very nice, but you need to wear the kind of shoes you'd wear to Aravaipa Canyon. You have to cross the river a lot. You also need at least one hiking pole, although two are better. See my triplongs and photos on here:...

Re: Smart Outdoor Watch-What do you wear?

All these watches are so smart, but do they really know what time it is? I wear a $20 wristwatch (analog) from K-mart (in Corvallis, OR, there still was a K-mart, over a year ago). The nice thing about this watch is that it is not too smart for its own good. It just tells the time, which I set to Ar...

Well, but Fish Creek near Hannagan Meadow will never be the same, and who hasn't heard of the PCT. Not in AZ, anyway.

Yeah, the Black River. You can tell people about it, but most of them won't go there.

Re: 2018 Fire Season

rain in Flagstaff this weekend It rained on Saturday, a total of less than .4 inches at the Flag airport. Today, Sunday, it's supposed to be sunny, and sunny the rest of the week. I seriously doubt the powers-that-be are going to reopen everything just yet. The forecast for the next week is sunny, ...
