Re: Oxbow Fire

That must have been the place I went by yesterday on my way up 87. There were a lot of vehicles there, a lot of different fire vehicles, and I assume trucks that carried the workers there. I guess it must have been what you're talking about. It was pretty close to what had already burned. But I don'...

Re: Two Fires In NW Tucson

@SpiderLegs
The maps I've been looking at on Inciweb show that Box Camp Trail from upper Sabino, and Palisades Trail, Bug Springs, Soldier Camp, and a few others on the SE side of the range are so far unaffected. Not many left that are unaffected, in other words.

Re: Two Fires In NW Tucson

I just heard from a couple of friends in Tucson saying the smoke is the worst they've ever seen it. One friend has lived there 65 years and has never seen anything like it.

Not all of them. A friend of mine lives on the corner of 89 and House Rock Rd. Not evacuated. The FS is setting up a temporary tank there, to create a sprinkler system.

I had forgotten about that page, thanks! The inciweb map every day has been helpful, though. Shows all the trails, so I know what I'm looking at.

Re: Two Fires In NW Tucson

@jrousoshammond I heard about this. I heard they said it was backburning, but a friend of mine, watching from town, said it sure looked like it got away from them. That's just rumor, of course, but the photos I saw, taken from midtown, were pretty spectacular last night. On the current inciweb map,...

@Canyonram
Nate used to be a fee collector when I was a tour guide. We used to chat about his last name. At the time, about 5 years ago, he didn't know if he is related to ol'JW. He always promised he'd look into it, but I don't know if he ever did. Powell is a pretty common name, anyway.

If I winter in Tucson (new RV, more choices) I may look at those, and will rejoin SAHC. I lived there from 1986-99.

I'm not a member of any of those, and won't join. The only one I ever was a member of, Arizona Hiking, was so shudderingly gawd-awful I took myself off of it.

I lived in Eagar. The ash fell in our yard, and you could see the plume, 135 miles away.

Re: How Soon Do Trails Open Up After A Fire?

@SpiderLegs
How long is a piece of string? It depends on numerous factors. Some never reopen, by the way.
