I should be arriving at Castle Butte no later than 4pm. Look for a white Tacoma. I'll leave the plan B planning to those that know the area better.

Re: Grand Gulch 2010 - Important Update!
If anyone from Phoenix is interested in riding with me let me know. I'm in Litchfield Park. Right now I'm planning on leaving Friday morning, having a leisurely drive and taking pictures along the way. I'll be camping with the group @ Castle Butte Friday night. Monday I will probably drive back when...

How is that road? My map shows it as dirt, 4wd likely needed.

I don't know the area at all, so if you tell me where it is and how to get there, that's where I'll be camping Friday night.PageRob wrote:Anyone going to be spending Friday night in Bluff or Valley of the Gods? That's my new Friday night camp idea.

Re: Grand Gulch 2010
Bob, do you have a GPS route or track for the GG hike? I tried to approximate one in my mapping software and I am only coming up with about 8 miles total when starting at Goverment trailhead, dropping down into GG and then snaking around for a while and coming out Collins Spring Canyon to Collins tr...

Re: Superstition 3 day backpack advice
I'm planning on going this weekend (3/6/10). Good to hear about the water, and it sounds like rain is predicted for Sunday, so I should just have to open my mouth and look up!

Re: Grand Gulch 2010
I really really really want to just do this Grand Gulch trip. If we have to do something else, I'll be disappointed. Woot! The weather has been upgraded next week (according to Weather.com anyway.) For what it's worth, the 10 day forecast looks really good. Now if only the weather really followed t...

Re: Grand Gulch 2010
I agree with Writealots on the maze as plan b. I'm in for GG (weather permitting) but probably out for the maze.Canyonlands would add an extra 2 hours to my drive home, and the dirt 4wd roads near the maze could more than triple that depending on how far we drive in.

Superstition 3 day backpack advice
I'm looking for a nice 3 day, 2 night backpack in the Supes. I'm thinking of starting at Paralta TH and taking Bluff Springs (235) to Dutchman (104) up to Charlebois Spring the first day. Camp at or near Charlebois Spring the first night. On the way back I was thinking of taking Dutchman to Peralta ...

What's everybody doing for transportation? I'm in Phoenix and would be interested in carpooling. I can take my Tacoma (seats 4) or ride with someone else. I was thinking about driving up Friday and probably camping Friday night. On Monday I was thinking about driving back after hiking out. I'm flexi...

Re: Grand Gulch 2010
I’m signed up for this amazing looking hike and I’ve got a few questions for those more experienced backpackers and those familiar with the area. 1) Sounds like it might be a little colder than I’m used to. I’m planning on bringing my +15F bag but I usually use a NeoAir mattress. I’m concerned that ...

Overnight backpack near Phoenix in February
I have just replaced ALL my backpacking gear with new ultra-lightweight stuff. I'm itching to try it out, but I normally only day hike around Phoenix and do most of my overnight stuff up in the mountains. I'm looking for a low desert hike (so I don't freeze) in the 8-10 mile per day range for 2 days...
