Adopt a trail

While hiking this weekend I heard a guy comment that they should have "Adopt a Trail" similar to "Adopt a highway." He brought this up because he thought the trail signs were too hard to read. I like the idea, but my personal feeling is when you are out hiking, the trail you are ...

I include rests, food breaks, and photo breaks in my total hike time. Since I use a gps, I don't have to use a watch.

GPS units are great! That being said, there are some drawbacks. First, in canyons the unit can get confused with signal bounce. I was hiking once in a canyon, and my gps said i was somewhere in British Colombia Canada. Second, they need to be in an open area to get signals from the satalites. Most w...

- Don't break in a new pair of hiking boots on hike, or you will go thru lots of moleskin - Don't believe a first time hiker in your group that says he is bringing enough water, make them tell you how many ounces of water they are bringing. - "I think it's that way" is not a good bushwakin...

Do you like your suspension?

Yeah, you can drive it in a passenger car, but it is ROUGH. My buddy takes his horses up there and says the road is getting worse.

This is Arizona, you must have a friend with a truck that you can borrow. Or, rent an small truck from Uhaul.

Trying to get back on the original topic... I have seen some strange looking people on the trails pack'n guns. Of course, when they see me hiking with a gun at my side, they must think I look strange carrying a gun. Honestly, who cares. If you want to take a gun, take it. If not, don't. I doubt anyo...

Oh, Behave!

If you read my review on the Flatiron trail, you will see I encountered Idiot boy. If you haven't read the review I will sum up Idiot boy. He was about 12-14 years old, part of a small group (2-3 adults and 4 kids). As Idiot boy was going down the steep part of the trail, just below the top, he thre...

The peak for this should be Tues morning between 0230 and 0330. Everything I read says give an hour on either side of this for best viewing. I am planing on being bundled up in a lawnchair in my backyard observatory at 0130 to 0500. For any of you that want to attempt photos of this event I recomend...

My brother and I noticed something in top of Weavers this weekend when we were hiking. With the zoom on my camera, I was able to see that it was an American flag. I was really torn. First, I am very patriotic and I love to see the flag. So I thought, "man is that cool, took some real work to ge...

I have been using the Garmin Etrex Venture. The unit is easy to use. The battery consumption is good, (to get the long battery life read the book, you have to turn off the WAAS, and change the route marking). I would recomend this unit. It can store loads of waypoints, and several routes. I have not...
