Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)
This is the first time I've logged onto HAZ in over a year. Checking in after I moved from AZ was getting depressing. But I heard some chatter about this on a social media site, so I wanted to get more details. I didn't know Joe except for through this site. He seems like a great guy. My thoughts ar...

It is a bunch of crap. I'm just saying it, because it will happen. I'm trying to save you the inevitable hassle of having to ban members and lock threads.

Re: Seeking opinions from hikers, climbers & fellow mountaineers
John has valid points. Climbing forums are not quite as civil as the forums are on this site. Yeah, occasionally things get out of hand here too, but it happens much faster on the climbing sites. Also, Hikergirl81, as stupid as this sounds, you might invite lots of angry PMs and posts if you write t...

Re: Where is Hoffmaster?
Elizabeth, I figure that with the right equipment (snowshoes, skis, snowboard, crampons, ice axes, etc...) the snow won't wear on me too much. In fact, I might be sad when it melts. Basically I feel like this: If there aren't leaves on the trees, then there should be snow on the ground. The snow in ...

Re: Where is Hoffmaster?
Thanks nonot. I think we have the snow-scraper things somewhere. I need to dig them out. Snow is fun. I'm going to be doing a ridiculous amount of snowshoeing and snowboarding this winter. Also, I am probably going to learn to ice climb, cross-country ski, and backcountry ski. So... the cider and bo...

I also want to say, if you commented on one of my photos months ago, sorry for not responding. I stopped visiting this site for a while; it was too depressing. And now I'm sure the comments are probably irrelevant. My wife said if she had the chance to move back to AZ, she would. So who knows, maybe...

I know I'd like to read about your climbing adventures! I've logged several climbing trips on here and have gotten no negative feedback. Probably because nobody read the logs. ;)

Hey guys! I just dropped by to vote for a few calendar photos. I've been poking around on this site and I really miss it. I just want to say "hi" and let you all know that I'm still alive. It looks like you all have been getting out quite a bit. Lots of awesome adventures and photos! Keep ...

Re: Rappel Sites
There is a huge boulder a short distance up the Echo Canyon trail at Camelback with anchors on the top. I have seen groups using it as a practice spot for rappelling. Same goes with a spot in Papago Park off the west side of Galvin Parkway. If you want it to be wet, then I would go to Christopher Cr...

I'm still around here occasionally. It's hard to keep reading about a place that I don't live in anymore. I'm really liking New Hampshire and the White Mountains, so that is my focus right now.

Blue Ridge Reservoir is a great recommendation! There are several spots on the lake that you can camp close to the shore, but still have the shelter of the pines. Have fun!

Wow, that is scary. I've crawled around in more mouse poop than I care to think about. I feel really lucky at the moment to not have contracted that disease.

Re: Mt. Baldy - Please DO Go to the Summit!
I once sat on the "white man's peak" and watched about a dozen Apaches in full native regalia doing a dance over on the other peak. I kid you not. I have told other hikers this and for some reason some people think I am making this up! It was quite something to see, although it was some d...

I love bears.
In my neighborhood, we are not supposed to put up bird feeders except for in the winter. Apparently the bears are real problem here. That is so exciting! I can't wait to see one.

Re: Haro Bikes
I've read good things about the Haro Xeon. When I was still living in AZ, I considered getting one of those. I thought it would be the perfect bike for ripping down Six Shooter and Ice House Canyons in the Pinals, and for blazing down the trails in the Dry Lake Hills area of Flagstaff. Also, if you'...

I don't think it would even be possible to drag the company car up that road! I can attest that that is not an accurate statement. I have successfully driven a company car on many roads in the area and the ones being discussed here are very tame. If you go to Horsethief Basin, the lake is stocked w...

Re: Backpacking Clubs: are you in one?
I used to be against the idea of clubs because I really didn't want to hike with large groups of people. However, since I've been bouncing around the country lately, I've changed my tune. I joined the Ohio Backpackers Yahoo Group. Liz and I went on a few hikes with them, but never actually backpacki...

Re: missing hiker found dead
As a kid I used to jump off all sorts of stupid things like Matt. Yeah, I found jumping off of Matt to be pretty hazardous as well. Thank goodness for growing up! :sl: Oh, I get it. (you have to read the first sentence with an emphasis on "like".) Listen to writelots kids, don't jump off ...
