Re: Historic mining districts Inyo Mtns Ca
Hi Letty, I remember seeing your original post, and then I forgot to view it. Now I did! It's a pretty special 4WD loop trip to include a stop at the Historic Cerro Gordo Ghost Town. Back in the Summer of YR2000, me and 3 other vehicles did this one as a two-day loop trip which I will always cherish...

@lisac Good to know that there is a doable entrance to Walnut Canyon from this corral area. The actual entrance area to the locked gate/no entrance signed Artisian Well area, is a little further up the road where the fenced cattle gate is. Unfortunately, the Forest roads to access the cabin loop trail heads will not be opened until approx mid-May 2023 due to unprecedented levels of snow and most likely also downed trees across roads.

All of the numbers are now unavailable on the missing poster. I’ve left a message with the sheriff’s office, but not getting through to anyone. Other options like Hank's route exist in accessing that area of Salome creek from the west side, but would seem to need a better 4WD vehicle than you have access to right now . eru has been up on that west side already (to the Malicious Gap area) and within 4 miles of the Dupont Cabin. Ended up just thinking I’d go down duponte at some time in the future. If I lived in the SW I’d definitely have a 4WD and canyoneering gear, but visiting occasionally I’m making do For future reference, here is a good geocoded area photo https://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=188899 (with tag notes)...
