Great photo sets from everybody! Amazing. I'm sorry I missed it. I hope the J3 Gang does this again, I'll be sure and make it!

Re: HAZ Fall Photo Workshop

This week is going to be difficult it appears, so I've officially moved into the "Pumpkin, I Can't Make It" column. I'll look forward to reading about the adventure and seeing the photos!

Re: HAZ Fall Photo Workshop

Great news.... after this gross high pressure system moves out of the SW, a new system of low pressure moves in sometime Sunday evening. This will probably mean the first freeze around the peaks which, of course, is A much needed occurance for those fall colors! I'll admit i was getting worried :sc...

+1 for Rosas (be sure and go back into the restaurant, not just the taqueria in front). Pork Asada FTW.
+1 Waldos too! Lots and lots and lots of food, fairly expensive though. Amazing dry rubbed ribs.

Re: Phoenix Mountain Preserves - Aug 1st... Ante Up!

Of course, I don't like paying any more taxes and fees than I already do. However, I'd feel better about a trailhead fee if I knew it was actually going to support the trail system(s). Unfortunately, this fee just goes right into the general fund.

Paraphrasing photographer Chase Jarvis: the best beer is the one in your hand after hiking Arizona. (the best camera is the one you have with you).

In photosets, the HAZ Window Decal is a "Culture" label, right?

Re: Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Globe?

@te-wa: You may have a point... however, at Waldos, one does have to slide the bone out, it's not like the rack of meat falls apart when you pick it up. It's never occurred to me that it was over (or under) cooked, it was tender and delicious. I'll have to go back and make a closer inspection!

Re: Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Globe?

" La Cocina De Casillas " in Miami (606 Live Oak Street)... best red chili i've ever had. A bowl of that and some warm tortillas makes for a very happy tummy. In Phoenix (Mesa), I always head to " Rancho de Tia Rosa " (a/k/a "Rosas") (McKellips/Val Vista-ish). Tex-Mex style I guess (whole beans, not...

+1 for Classic Italian Pizza But my new favorite is: "Crust" (Pizza and Wine). One location on Indian Bend/Hayden, right next to Sakana and new one downtown somewhere. The pizza is great, the "rolatini" (calzone) are awesome and the bruschetta (they call it "tomato tartar") is THE BOMB!! Don't leave...

Re: Soft Water Effect

If I wanted to buy a camera that's a point and shoot but still could take those soft water effect shots I think are so awesome, what it the spec I'm looking for...the abililty to take 5-10 second exposures?? Is there a name for it? As you might expect, "soft" water and other time-exposure effects (...

Re: REI Tempe has lousy service

I always have great service at the REI in Tempe and I'm a fat 40'ish pale bald guy -- maybe they think i'm a perfect mark actually. But i've always been given complete attention. I spent several days researching, trying on, buying, returning, buying another backpack. The sales people were patient an...

Man, I just love this site!! I had never heard about this loop, and i'm always looking for nice places to camp on the rim... add one more (5 more?) to my already freaking huge wish list. So little time, so much HAZ. Sigh.

Yeah, i'd wear t-shirts, slap on a bumper sticker and heck, if you made a little nylon patch I'd sew it onto my pack!! Well, okay... my girlfriend would sew it on to my pack (and hers probably).

Why not a CafePress (or somesuch) print on demand type thing?

How to retire old boots?

I finally replaced my 10 year old Vasques with a shiny new pair of Keens. The Vasques were to the point that I could feel every tiny pebble thru the sole. Growing up in Oregon, my parents forced my brother and I to go hiking when we were young. Hated it at the time of course, but as I became an adul...
