Re: West Fork Oak Creek trip
Back from the trip. First of all, no photos--my camera phone decided to erase everything I had out of the blue. A bit disappointing to say the least. As for the trip, we were forced to turn back after a couple of hours of hiking, as there is no water for at least the first 2 1/2-3 miles of the upper...

Re: West Fork Oak Creek trip
Thanks for the info. We're terrible about pics. I'll take some, but they'll be crappy disposable and lo res camera phone. We're a couple of luddites, in certain ways.

Re: West Fork Oak Creek trip
One final question, perhaps the most important of them. I haven't read much, if anything, warning about flash flooding in the canyon. Does anybody have any insight into this? Growing up in AZ, flash floods were always an issue, but strangely never brought up here as a hazard. Should we worry, as we'...

Re: West Fork Oak Creek trip
That's a great tip. I didn't even think about the bag filling up with 10 gallons of water. I'll do that.

Re: West Fork Oak Creek trip
I'm not at all opposed to some guerilla camping. That overhang spot sounds like a potential 2nd night site. I wonder how difficult, and time-consuming, it will be to hike back up to the top from there on the third day. I had planned on getting something similar to the boundary bag. Actually, Outdoor...

Re: West Fork Oak Creek trip
Hey, great advice, thanks!
Does anyone know where the overhangs are, in general, as far as mileage? I'll bring a topo map, but I don't believe they'll be on there.

West Fork Oak Creek trip
Hello! My wife and I want to do the West Fork trail in a couple weeks. We wanted to hike it end to end, but won't be able to do the shuttle bit. Does anybody know, if we have two nights, which would be better--roundtrip from the bottom, touristy area, or from the top, FR 231? I've never been down fr...

Re: Kofa NWR jaunt
Thanks for the info! Might car camp, although we don't mind packing water for 1 night. Desolate, sounds good to me.
I'd appreciate any more info in anyone has it.

Kofa NWR jaunt
Hello! Does anybody have any tips about a great place to camp/backpack in the Kofas? We'll be there in about a week for about a day and a half. We want to check out Palm Canyon, but we can go elsewhere if needed, we can pack everything in, or would be willing to car camp if it's fantastic. Any ideas...

Monument Valley: anything without a guide?
Hello! I'm hoping to find some info about Monument Valley (or other spectacular Navajo/Hopi Res) hikes, perhaps something little known. The idea of paying $90 each for my wife and I to hike with a guide sounds unappealing to say the least. I've heard a tiny bit about Wildcat Trail, which allegedly g...

Cabeza Prieta Wilderness
My wife and I are heading into Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge just before Christmas, and I'm looking for some tips on where to go. Is there a must-not-miss trail or location? I'm aware of the issues there, illegals, smugglers, Border Patrol, stray missles, etc., but we're craving some advent...
