Re: Water, Superstition Wilderness

Here is some real time information from some trail volunteers. Second Water Spring, normally rated as fair, is dry. There are a couple of small pools surrounding some reeds below the spring, but I would not recommend filtering unless you are desperate. Boulder Canyon is dry from Second Water trail t...

FR 487 Aztec Peak

Forest Road 487 to the top of Aztec peak is open, but use caution. Half way up you'll need high clearance due to rockfall and several unavoidable deep pot holes.

Forest Road 68 - Pine Mountain

The road is very passable but really rough. Lots of exposed rocks and a few drops or steps. You need high clearance be it 2x or 4x and no a Subaru will not make it.

Superstitions accident

Happy New Year, this is just a reminder to be viligant out there.
On December 30th there was a fall in the Sups that resulted in non recoverable injuries. Always sad to lose a fellow outdoorsman.

Hoka One Speed Goat 4 My wife and I love these shoes. They have a knobby Vibram sole, great traction. We get a couple years out of them.

Re: Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

@LindaAnn I'm not going to argue with you over your opinion. But let me tell you from first hand knowledge no human should be out there when these heat related rescues happen. I maintain Phoenix's rescue helicopter and have seen it launch more than once above 105. Last rant why would want to hike a...

Re: Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

It's mostly out of towners giving us a problem. Last week our unit lifted a guy off Camelback at 1500 hrs. He was from the east cost, he stated he had hike it February and didn't see a problem. He was only carrying one bottle of water.

The best for water is a breathable shoe. Then put on aqua socks with a pair of wool socks over the top. This comes from canyoneering community.

Re: Royal Arch Route, AZ. Rappel and upclimb options.

My 2 cents, we used the knotted rope the rafters left there. That was in 2018, I would still take 20 ish foot of static rope and maybe a light speed harness. No need to over kill it

Re: Hiking etiquette with dogs

Please put your dog on a leash when hiking on an established trail. Very few people have voice control over their dog, so don't even bother telling me you do. Unless your a licensed K-9 trainer or had formal training, it takes months of practice to train a dog and owner. Ask your self, have you done...
