Re: @ssk44 in Arizona Highways

Thank you. I consider it a great honor. It's such an iconic magazine. It's been my dream. Seeing your photos in Arizona Highways for the first time is a feeling that's difficult to describe. It's humbling.

Buzzards Roost in the Superstition Mountains delivers a solid scramble with an amazing summit payoff. It's not for the faint of heart. Ha.. It sure humbled me.

Re: Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Miami/Globe?

J&R El Rey Cafe "Lot's of Mexican Food choices for combo and a' la carte plates." I was impressed. The "hot" salsa was excellent.. Hot with great flavor. I'm a big green chili guy. Not many places do green chili right. It's always bland and boring. I ordered the "spicy" green chili burro (green enc...

Re: Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

This would be a great adventure if you have a boat. I always wanted to do this one. I've only seen a photo online. It's an amazing setting. I spent a lot of time at Lake Powell when I was young. I miss those trips.

Re: Digital Cameras

JPEG processing? Like a cellphone camera? Isn't the whole point of having a dSLR with unlimited storage and removable memory cards so you can take the highest-quality photos in RAW? Isn't the entire point of RAW to eliminate the problems that JPEG processing produces? Even good cell phones now shoo...

Re: Digital Cameras

Keep in mind the G9X and the G9X Mark 2 are a little different. Actually very different. I've been trying to figure out what changed on the Mark II. Now I know. Beyond Digic 7 and some other tweaks this model now utilizes "Picture Style" for its jpeg processing which is more similar to what DSLR's ...

Re: Digital Cameras

My gripe about my images compared to "some" is really directed to the iPhone posters. I know what you mean. Smartphones even with there small sensor size take great photos very easily. They have what I call the "magic button". Your Canon with its 1 inch sensor is capable of taking very impressive p...

Re: Digital Cameras

Though I wonder if I'm comparing to results I see on HAZ which benefit from a lot of post-processing either in our out of the camera. I would also add to never judge camera photo image quality from what you see posted on HAZ. Joe can likely add further to this. Web compression is rough on photos an...

Re: Digital Cameras

I seldom get shots I think are really sharp or impressive. Hmm.. That's interesting. That model does get some mixed reviews. Maybe they're not all the same in regards to image quality. In contrast, my dads G5X takes very impressive photos. And I'll add right out of the camera. Maybe you can try cha...

That's cool. The 1 inch sensor Canon's are good cameras. My dad has a G5X. Sensor size makes a big difference. I love that your G9X starts at 28mm on the wide end rather than 24mm. Much more natural perspective. 28mm is plenty wide for general use.

Re: SR87 / Beeline Hwy 2017 summer restrictions

That Slate Creek Hill nightmare reminds me of the problems ADOT had along the 260 above Christopher Creek heading up the Rim. They finally had to put in huge arcing bridges. Those springs were always taking out the highway. I think they're still having mild issues up there.

Re: Wildfire smoke forecast

The NOAA air quality forecast is also very helpful. I use it for both Surface and Vertical Smoke movement. It's a 12 hour forecast movement. This has became very helpful for my summer photography interests. I know when to stay home.. http://airquality.weather.gov/sectors/southrockies.php?period=1#tabs

Re: Itchy bugs

@Hansenaz Deet makes me sick. When I'm forced to coexist with them I've had good luck with Repel Lemon Eucalyptus Insect Repellent. It can be purchased at REI. It smells weird but it actually works on gnats. They'll swarm around you but they wont land. Regarding the time delay I would say that 24 h...

Re: Itchy bugs

:scared: Africanized gnats.. I hate gnats. They're my nemesis. 5,000 feet (+/-) in May/June seems to be the worst. My worst experience with gnats was a few years back above Salt River Canyon near Philips Mine FR473 in May. The elevation was about 4,800 feet. I got out of my car to take a piss. The m...

Re: Canoeing to Canyon Lake--Point Campground

We'll probably have a couple of 5-person tents for the boys, plus a a couple of one-two person tents for adults. I hope it works out. I'm not sure how its laid out and how level it is. I've not personally walked into the site. I've just seen tents up on the hill from time to time. It looks to have ...

Re: Canoeing to Canyon Lake--Point Campground

Any idea how many groups the campground can reasonably accommodate? (I've never been there). It's a small first come first serve site.. http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/tonto/recreation/camping-cabins/recarea/?recid=35429&actid=29 Another campsite consideration could be a dispersed site on a point at...

Re: Canoeing to Canyon Lake--Point Campground

One consideration should be the canoeing part. It would be advisable that all involved are very experienced. Canoes on big narrow lakes like Canyon from April through September can be scary. The wake boarding boats will swamp you without blinking an eye. Kayaks are a different story. Especially self...
