Re: Horton Creek Alternative for this Weekend (Early April)
@DBmooner: Thanks for the suggestion! Are there rules about how close you can camp to Knoll lake? I thought I remembered something about staying 1/4 mile from the water, but I'm not sure.

Horton Creek Alternative for this Weekend (Early April)
Hello all, A group of us had a long weekend (Thu afternoon - Sun) planned at a friend's primitive cabin but it has fallen through. Now I'm scrambling to find a backpacking trip instead. We have a couple of people coming who have never backpacked before (there are 6 of us). I'm thinking Payson area b...

Haigler Creek in October
Thanks to another post in this message board, we are looking at backpacking and camping somewhere around Haigler Creek this weekend. We'd like to find a secluded spot a few miles from any trailhead/campground/day use. It looks like our options are to start from Fisherman's Point or Alderwood Campgro...

3 night backpacking trip in October
Looking at going up around Payson this weekend (or really anywhere three hours or less from Phoenix with flowing water for filtering). We will be leaving Friday afternoon and coming back sometime on Monday. We generally always wind up going to Horton creek and camping there, but I'd like something n...

Backpacking with no fire
My friends and I have taken a total of 4 backpacking trips and every one has included being able to have a fire. We are thinking of doing Kinder Crossing this weekend and of course, no fires allowed. We can filter water and use my backpacking stove, so it should be okay. My question is, what are som...

Re: 2 night backpack near stream and fire
Well, it looks like fire restrictions for the whole state now. I guess we're going without a fire (which I've never done). That opens up a lot for us, but I still like what I've seen from Kinder Crossing. Are we allowed to camp where ever if we're not going to have a fire, or do we need to camp at a...

Re: 2 night backpack near stream and fire
I was looking at Kinder Crossing. The pictures look amazing. Are there quite a few spots around there with fire rings?

2 night backpack near stream and fire
Hello, we had our annual "Man Camp" guys getaway scheduled for the weekend of June 10th. We are coming from Phoenix and there are 5 of us. We were originally going to do our usual easy hike up Horton Trail and camp by the stream, but fire restrictions are in effect. It looks like the Cocon...
