Re: Pug vs Coyote @ Gilbert Riparian Preserve
As an avid predator hunter, I say give it time. The pooch will be food soon enough. This is the time of year the pups are kicked out of their den to fend for themselves. Hunting shows, as 2 weeks ago I called in two, the first in under 25 seconds and the second in about 2 min. They are naive right n...

That sound like a great trip. Backpacking the supes solo is something I did for a good year or so. I always found water also.
This time of year I spend coyote hunting, and the backpack kinda gets tossed to the side until March or April. Hopefully I can get back in the supes this spring.

I would think you could just throw your bag outside the car at the parking lot. I did have the guy check my permit when I arrived but I do not think he was a ranger.
I highly doubt there will be anyone checking the lot at night when you arrive.

You can get a text message down at the campground. Not enough power to make a call though. Noticed this on my sprint and tmobile. Strange because I can drop a call with sprint in the middle of phoenix, but have great reception in middle of nowhere arizona. I even got a call from a phoenix to vegas f...

You wont hit terminal at 350ft. I saw a guy hit from 486ft and he was only doing about 80mph. At around 750-800 you will hit terminal (belly to earth) a bit quicker if standing. Remember terminal is when an object stops accelerating, and can be manipulated easily. I'm suprised the Navajos are lettin...

Re: How do you carry your handgun while backpacking?
True, the SD rounds out there are better suited for creating good hydrostatic shock on soft fleshy people tissue. Animals are a different story. Use what the hunters use, soft points. Provides good penetration and expansion. I had some winchester 158 gr SP bullets that I loaded a few years ago and g...

Re: How do you carry your handgun while backpacking?
If I'm on an inner city hike or near a populated area, I carry a Glock 27 in a blackhawk serpa with 135gr Hydroshocks conceled to not freak out the antigunners. If I'm deep in the backcountry, I open carry a snubby .357 with 158 gr Hydroshocks in a cheap uncle mikes sidekick holster. A few years ago...

I was hunting up near Pica Camp last month and ran into some lion hunters who have been filling a lot of tags that way this year.

Re: 6 Days in the Supes, questions about a LONG loop
Sounds like an awsome trip. I pretty much lived in the supes in 2008/09, and probably have still only seen 5% of it all.
I need to get back out there if I ever get home from work. I was home all of 6 weeks in 2012

If you hunt an AZ hunting license it also serves as a state trust permit.

The situation he was in is still being used in concealed weapons classes to this day. Sad to hear. He did everything right and still got hosed by an uneducated jury. RIP
