Aravaipa Plant Identification
I'm trying to identify the green groundcover I saw at Aravaipa a couple weeks ago. In this photo, the greenery on the righthand side: https://hikearizona.com/photo.php?ZIP=690222 In this photo, the groundcover in the immediate foreground (looks to be a different plant than the other photos because t...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat
I second that. My morning stroll about that time was a scorcher, definitely some humidity holding the heat in overnight. Saw photos of a thunderstorm down near Casa Grande last night so hopefully we can get some of that a bit farther north...rcorfman wrote:Try 7

Re: Where are the Superstition Mountains?
Geologically speaking, the Superstition Mountains are an extinct resurgent caldera volcano, similar to, but not nearly as large as the Yellowstone Caldera (or as it is more commonly known, the Yellowstone Supervolano). I don't have much specific info laying around about it the moment (need to dig th...

Re: It's time for Wilderness quotas
The last time I was at Peralta TH, there was a tour bus parked there. Seriously. Filled with foreign tourists and not one of them had a water bottle. The poor Ranger had a look on his face of OMFG what have we done? It's not wilderness, but that's becoming a huge problem for NPS at Horseshoe Bend. ...

Another javelina sighting yesterday afternoon. Apparently there are 5 adults and a youngster that like to hang out in our citrus grove and nibble on fallen fruit.

Right on! Will do. Had some interesting wildlife encounters on the trip last week as it turns out too. I'll have to share them here when I have more than a moment.

Re: Arizona wildlife sightings
Saw a javelina at work yesterday, as I was exiting the backdoor, it was probably 20 yards away. We made definite eye-contact. Our parking lot opens right into the desert (McDowells), so it bolted into the desert as I fumbled in my pocket for my phone to take a pic

Current Grand Canyon Corridor Trail Conditions
I didn't see an existing thread so we'll start a new one.
Anyone been on the South Kaibab or Bright Angel within the last week? I'm wondering if there is ice present on either trail?
We're hiking in on S. Kaibab on Saturday and out Bright Angel on Tuesday. Wondering if yaktrax will be necessary.
