Re: Blue Range Primitive Area - Linking Dutch Blue Creek with Bear Mtn
If you have a high tolerance for suffering, the Blue Range is your spot. I'd agree with the car camp and scout advice. Any GPS routes or trail descriptions you find that were uploaded pre-2011 can be tossed in the garbage. Much of the hiking is bushwhacking and finding path of least resistance throu...

Re: Three day loop off corridor?
Anyone know the parking availability at both/either trailhead? I'm considering parking at Grandview and walking/hitching to the start of New Hance. The walk down the road doesn't look too bad -- couldn't be more than 4 miles. I'd probably drive down to New Hance TH and drop off and hide my pack firs...

Re: Three day loop off corridor?
I'm now eyeballing New Hance/ Tonto / Grandview. Any reason I shouldn't?

Three day loop off corridor?
Any suggestions for a three day loop that's not a corridor route? I've done the R2R hike many times and did R2R2R in June. I haven't looked into some of the other options that start at different trail heads along the south rim. I don't mind including a leg of the trip as one of the corridor routes, ...

Re: 3 day, 2 night, looking for ideas
@up2top Not sure what dates you're talking about, but with the next week looking to be in the 70s to barely 80 at PHX, I can't imagine that anywhere would be too hot. The forecast is calling for spritzes of rain off and on for the next week too, so some additional runoff might invigorate some strea...

Re: 3 day, 2 night, looking for ideas
I kinda doubt the Zane Grey race would have much of an impact on a three day outing along the Highline Trail. It actually might be fun to see a few of the runners pass by anyhow. We're not willing to take the chance. Adam has worked comms for many similar events and the amount of traffic the trails...

Re: 3 day, 2 night, looking for ideas
I wouldn't think finding a 3 day trip this time of year would be that hard, but we're coming up with goose eggs every where we turn. Sedona? Great for day hikes; not so much for multi-day unless you pack all your water. Bradshaws? Where? I pulled up all routes around Crown King -- can't find anythin...

Re: Balancing Hiking with Strength Training
Functional fitness programs, like CrossFit, are a good match for those looking to be well rounded in all areas of fitness. I'm not in very good cardio condition right now but I find that doing metabolic conditioning 3x a week and strength training 3-4x a week puts me in good position to roll out of ...

Three day trip in Sedona?
Any recommendations for a good three day hike in Sedona? The main problem I'm running into seems to be access to water. I really don't want to carry three days worth of water. I'm checking out Secret Canyon right now, and that looks like it has potential for at least part of the hike. I'd prefer a l...

Looks like Bonita Creek is only about 5 miles past Washington Park. How does the area around Big Canyon look for campsite prospects?

Re: More Highline Trail questions...
Thanks for the replies. My main concern with camping near Washington Park is the mileage we would need to cover the second day to get us to the Dick Williams Creek area. Are there any good locations for camping with a water source near by that may be short of Tonto Creek/Dick Williams Creek?

More Highline Trail questions...
We're looking to do some of the Highline TR in a couple of weeks going west to east. We're limited to three days and two nights so we're not going to try to do the entire trail. I had wanted to start at the Pine TH, but it looks like we may be better off driving into Geronimo TH to keep the mileage ...
