Re: Rincon Peak cairn destroyed
@chumley
it has been a recognized survey monument by USGS since 1935. there is no other monumentation at that peak. i can understand that some feel that cairns in an of themselves are vandalism, but this one was different.

Re: What determines "extreme" wildflowers in your triplogs?
for me, it's about quantity. what percentage of the landscape is covered in any flowers? if it's 1 percent, that would be isolated. and then as the percentages go up, so does my opinion of how flowerific everything truly is. also, as joe mentioned - i do like variety, especially seeing a flower in t...

What determines "extreme" wildflowers in your triplogs?
Instead of hijacking someone's triplog (sorry tibber), i thought this topic might be a good discussion. what do you think makes the difference between light, moderate, or even extreme wildflowers? is it variety or is it quantity? discuss. oh, and if someone can make a poll for this, that'd be awesome.

Re: Best Mexican Food Restaurant in Superior/Miami/Globe?
What is it with Mexican food places in globe and the use of butter? I had a burro at chalo's last night coated in butter (still delicious btw, chalo's is still my favorite) and then I got a tortilla this morning at breakfast at el ranchito soaking with butter. Someone please explain this phenomenon....

Re: Like to say...
I know there is at least one other marker that is from a foreign country (chumley), and they don't do things quite the same, eh? i'm considering a catch-all for things like that as well as lesser photographed survey markers such as cave markers, public park markers, etc. that don't really fit into o...

Not sure where to put this, since there are two forums that mention the various types of survey marks. Since I've been hanging out with a surveyor lately, I've learned that not all of these markers are benchmarks. So... I recently created two new culture labels for different types of survey markers:...

@bknorby after visiting your house a few years ago, i'm using your system of hooks on the garage ceiling to store my backpacks, where i keep some of my backpacking gear as well. and, since i got my jeep, i haven't had the need for extra storage for car camping gear - i just keep the jeep pre-loaded...

Who find 110 far easier to hike in than +10? Or -10, for that matter. I do. Heat is a lot better than cold. i feel no great calling to hike in either extreme. i'm lucky in that i can drive 45 minutes and be on the top of mt. lemmon in the summer, and it's never that cold in the winter here. but eve...
