Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

Like a couple of you I have recently been considering moving from Phoenix to east Mesa I live in NE Mesa and its so close to everything (time wise) yet borders Tonto National Forest. The 202 is 3 mins away, the salt river is 5 mins down the hill, Bush Hwy-Beeline-Payson, Apache trail/Supes, tons of...

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

I've been watching the air activity via this link: https://www.flightradar24.com/N261GB/20eec145 When you click on the plane above the Supes, in this case, N261GB you can see his flight pattern... very cool Yea he is a King Air lead plane. The tankers will follow him in and he'll mark the drop area...

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

Do they have leads on who started this? Who knows, but apparently there isn't much of a penalty for this type of thing. The largest fire in AZ history was the Wallow Fire in 2011, which burned 538,000 acres. The 2 people who started that fire each received 48 hours of jail time and 5 years of proba...

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

Thanks for that update. Just unbelievable. Gutting news to hear that my favorite hiking area will soon be charred. Reavis will eventually recover but probably not fully in my lifetime.

Do they have leads on who started this?

Re: Woodbury Fire - Superstition Wilderness

@Sredfield
Yea it looks like we might lose the ranch. The fire is progressing down the trail/valley north towards the ranch. I hope they find the idiot(s) that started this and bankrupt and jail them!

Re: Mapsource US 24k Southwest

Downloaded and installed the AZ Topo 24k from gps file thieves.com and installed to Mapsource. It's basically the Topo US 2008 but with 24k contour and no shaded relief. Downloaded to my unit and looked the same. Great alternative to the retail Mapsource 24k SW if you don't want to plunk down the 10...

Looks good. Wonder how it compares to the 24k Southwest? I'm downloading it now so we'll see.

Thanks for the great info chumley!

Re: Mapsource US 24k Southwest

I actually downloaded the "J" section of the state and used the SendMap20 software to compress all to one file as instructed. I then downloaded to my gps without any result. No contours, no nothing. Not knockin his mapping ides or anything, just didn't work on my unit.

Mapsource US 24k Southwest

Just curious if anyone has this software and how you like it. Thinking of purchasing it for my 60CSx. Does it show true 24k on your gps? Gotta be better than the 100k on Topo 2008.

Re: Brown's Cave

Ok I just received some crappy news! I just reminded my wife about the hike and she told me that she had to work, which she said that she originally had the day off. My luck! Shes' fired! So now i have nobody to watch my son for this all day affair! And I was looking forward to adding some Arizona P...

Sorry, I've been a little distracted by my 6 month old to reply lately.
I have an empty passenger seat along with a tight fit in the extra cab. Anybody brave enough can jump in the back! :scared:

Hmmmm. Sounds fun, especially the after hike beer. But being 4x4 fan myself, driving looks to be part of the adventure IMHO. But then again majority rules and I'm easily swayed.

Sweet, hope you can swing it Aaron, haven't seen you in a long time. Hank and I are doing a test run to another hike in the area to check out the road. Ya man! Not since our failed attempt at the Mother Lode. Been busy with a new baby boy and long hours at work.. All my hiking has been limited to t...
