Re: Intro to GC packrafting
@shelby147 - so I own a Supai, Klymit LWD, Scout, and a Alpacka Wolverine. It depends on what you want to do as to which raft you should by. If you only will cross the river then the Supai and Klymit are good options. If you want to travel through riffles and longer distances get the Scout. The Sco...

@Jim_H I never got any emails. Mark just sent me this thread since I’m not on here often. Video was recorded by my iPhone from the screen on our Tesla. Unfortunately it didn’t save to the USB stick. I gave the video to the PCSD.

I’m pretty sure the Bells keys are locked up in a Federal Building right now. And to chime in like Redroxx, Please do not swim in caves for many reasons... the microorganisms that live there and often in caves you might find calcite rafts floating on the water which means the cave is forming. And si...

@Tough_Boots I just finished a fictionalized account called ‘With Blood in their Eyes’ by Thomas Cobb. I’ll have to check out the book you mentioned. Thanks!

@GrottoGirl
Nevermind - I had checked the spring earlier in the month and no one had been there but I see now that someone just went about a week ago and left a report. I love HAZ!!!

If you were into technical Canyoneering there are lots of options for packrafting the Colorado in the Grand Canyon. The limit is 5 miles and you need backcountry and/or Navajo permits. There is a great book out called Grand Canyoneering . The pictures are worth the purchase! You'd have to use a wets...

Each person should take 3 lights. Gloves to protect the cave from your oils. Knee pads and elbow pads are nice to have. The temp is pretty nice, you may even think it's a bit warm. If you can find the birthing canal it will be a fairly tight squeeze! I think we spent 3 or 4 hours in there. Being cav...

I just returned from DV. If you like to scramble I recommend Grotto Canyon. It takes 2-4 hours. Echo canyon is an ice drive up to Inyo Mine. Lots of good scenery and history. Another non-technical adventure is to do an out and back hike from hole-in-the-Wall up Slit Canyon. You can hike around the d...

@RedRoxx44 made a good point about the Grand Canton caves -they are closed with the exception of Cave of the Domes. You have to get a permit to visit them and they only grant those for research such as mapping. And mines are really cool!!!

Re: Tips for Exploring Unmapped Caves
I'm a member of the Southern Arizona Grotto (caving club) in Tucson. As Chumley has told you the caving community is very protective of the caves in Arizona and it's easy to see why. Go visit Peppersauce. I recommend joining bit the NSS and a local grotto. They will guide you to how to care for the ...
