Grand Canyon signs say "Do not attempt to hike down to the river and back in one day. A lot of people died trying to do this."
Probably it's another way of saying "If you know you can do it then do it, and if that's an attempt for you then don't".

2) From Flagstaff it's 165 mi one way via Seligman (I-40, AZ-66, BIA-18), about 3 hrs driving. The road is paved all the way to Hualapai Hilltop.

Re: Humphreys peak via Inner Basin, dayhike
I have just returned from trail, currently having the best pie in America, so I shall report. The road has a new layer of freshly graded gravel and it is absolutely sedanable. There is a "road closed" sign at the road entrance but it should be disregarded. Trail looks good too except Weath...

Humphreys peak via Inner Basin, dayhike
Locket Meadow Road opens 9/15 at 8:00, so Inner Basin approach to Humphreys summit is available again. Time to go! I'm planning to leave Phoenix as early as about 8 am (trailhead @ 10:30) and return the same day. Hiking speed would be moderate. Primary and preferable target date is 9/15, but it can ...

Re: Trail #25: Myth or reality?
So here's the map: http://hikearizona.com/map.php?MY=2102&M=5. Trails marked as "Trail 25" and "Trail 25A" are drawn as on printed Green Trails map and they totally exist. You can easily see them if you zoom in the satellite view. Trail 25A follows the sidewalk of Pointe Golf...

Re: Mt Humphrey's night hiking
I'm in(terested) too. Haven't been there this summer yet, but thought of something different than 2.5 previous times. Since Inner Basin approach is unreasonable due to the road closure, night hike option on the main trail seems a fair alternative. The Humphreys shortcut from the Snowbowl parking lot...

Re: Court rules Mt. Lemmon/Catalina Hwy Fee Illegal
Wait, so even the Sabino Canyon location is no longer a fee site? According to judge's decision stated in the first post of this thread, the fee is not linked to the site, it's linked to how you use the site. If you park the car and hike/bike/run there, you may refuse to pay the fee. But once you h...

According to National Park Service, high clearance vehicle has "at least 8 inches of clearance or more, from the lowest point of the frame, body,
suspension, or differential, to the ground". Vehicles having clearance less than 8" are considered low clearance.

Aztec Peak loop
14-18 miles loop based on whether we can get up the FR-487. The loop definitely includes Abbey's Way trail #151 to the peak itself. If we have a high clearance or 4WD ride, we can go up FR-487 to Falls campground or Peterson TH, #151 up, FR-487, 487A to Murphy TH, trail #139 to #160, #160 to Carr TH...

Re: Humphrey's Peak
The connecting trail from the ski lodge to the main trail is closed as of last Sunday.
As for the signage, when you approach Snowbowl there is a big sign saying Ski Lodge straight ahead, Mt. Humphreys Trailhead on left, and it points directly to the trailhead (lower) parking lot entrance.
