Re: Water, West Pinto Trail
@xsproutx I've been down Rogers Canyon when the water was waist deep, so I hope it's passable. It's pretty riparian so I wouldn't expect that much catclaw but I could be mistaken. Are you saying that there's a lot of catclaw on the climb up from Fish Creek and down to Frog Tanks? Or are you saying ...

Re: Water, West Pinto Trail
@nonot Great photos! It's so green and so much water, thanks. I'm doing a loop from the Miles TH to Rogers Trough, Angel Basin, Plow Saddle, Reavis Ranch, Circlestone returning on the Campaign Trail, so that's why I was asking about water at Oak Flat. On the way out, I don't plan on making it to Ro...

Water, West Pinto Trail
With all the rain lately, does anyone know if there is water along the West Pinto Trail #212? Particularly West Fork Pinto Creek about 6 miles West of the Miles TH.
Can I assume there will be water at Oak Flats where the Campaign Trail #256 meets the West Pinto Trail?
Thanks!

Re: FS 287A to Miles Trailhead - Superstitions
Any update on 287A to Miles for 2024? I plan to go at the end of March with a Subaru and a rental van.
I guess the post from Nov 2023 should still be pretty valid though.
Thanks!
Steve

Falcon Guide: Hiking Arizona's Superstition & Mazatzal Country
I have a copy of the Falcon Guide: https://hikearizona.com/books.php?ID=26 published in the year 2000. Even though the land hasn't disappeared, about how accurate / useful would you say this book is? Certainly there have been trail re-routes and wildfires, but I wonder if it has crossed over from be...

Doll Baby FR406
Does anyone know how passable the roads currently are to Doll Baby Trailhead and to Barnhardt Trailhead? Any washouts? Any snow? Can I reasonably expect to get there with a regular sedan or do I need high clearance / 4 wheel drive?
I expect to start my hike March 29th so there's still some time.

Shuttle from North Rim to South Rim, May 16, 2020
I just got my Rim to Rim permit for May but the park would not grant me a Rim to Rim to Rim permit :( . So I need a shuttle from the North Rim to the South Rim on Saturday, May 16th as early as possible after sunrise. Here's the catch. We may be as many as 11 people, but we're 6 at least. Can anyone...

Re: Needles Water Conditions - Canyonlands
One hopes those water sources will still be hanging around If you don't want to go back to the parking lot, I'd recommend the trail to Druid Arch. I can't imagine those pools will dry up completely. However, they're a mile up the trail. That's still preferable to going back to the campground though...

Re: Needles Water Conditions - Canyonlands
Thanks very much for the report! Like you, we encountered very little water out there. And as you mentioned, there was water in the pools up by Druid Arch. Not the most amazing looking water but actually reasonably clear. However, there is one source near Elephant Canyon we were told of by other hik...

Needles Water Conditions - Canyonlands
I know this is a long shot since it's Utah, but has anyone been in the Needles District of Canyonlands lately? I'm wondering what the surface water conditions might be, particularly in Elephant Canyon and Squaw Canyon. (Also the spring on the way to Druid Arch)
Thanks,
Steve

One more question: Is FR 201 to the Mt. Peeley Trailhead a 4x4 road or can it be done in a regular car/sedan?

Having hiked the Ridgeline last year, I don't want to include an even more difficult hike as part of a weeklong trek.

Re: Mazatzal Wilderness Info Sought
that's a good 3-4 days The route is great and your water reporting is critical and very appreciated. However there's not a chance in hell that I could backpack 75 miles of that terrain in 3 days! Maybe Mt. Peeley to the East Verde River or Red Hills to Pine is more likely, but I'd still like maybe ...

Mazatzal Wilderness Info Sought
While I'd normally hike in the Superstition Wilderness next March, the Woodbury Fire is making me consider the Mazatzal Wilderness instead. My 20 year old Falcon guide shows a rich trail system in the Mazatzals. I know there was a big fire there in the early 2000s that devastated the area, so much o...

Re: Shuttling vehicle from Tule TH to Reavis TH
I thought I should be more specific regarding the shuttle for this coming Sunday. Please let me know if this could work for you. We are a group of 10 backpackers going from Tule TH to Reavis TH (not Rogers Trough) We leave Tempe around 7:30AM on Sunday March 11th, the day someone would join us to do...
