AZT Journals - Please Share

I was asked in another thread to share more about my thru-hike of the AZT. I expect there are many more stories out there to be shared. If you've got an AZT journal hiding out there, please add to this thread. http://hikingdude.com/trail-azt.php has my AZT info. My journal is made from my ontrail bl...

Re: Big Improvements to Mazatzals Divide, AZT #23

The Mazatzal area was great a few weeks ago! I really appreciate all the extra efforts made to clear that section of trail. Everything I heard was that it was the worst and I kept waiting for the bad part. But, after struggling through Four Peaks, it was just wonderful. Thanks again to the efforts t...

Re: Black Hills Passage where trail crosses Grants Wash

I cached a gallon jug just north of Cedar Ranch trailhead. I noticed many people left their empty jugs, but I carried mine out with me. As it turns out, it didn't weight much and it came in very useful at Russell Tank to scoop water and then I tossed it in the garbage cans at the trailhead there. Al...

Re: Where to place water caches besides Freeman Road

I just finnished my thru and the only place I cached H2O was at Cedar Ranch north of Flag, and I'm glad I did. I got very good water at Alfa Fia tank and then none until Russell Tank. Russell water was just fine, not muddy. It looked like quite a few people had cached at the Cedar Ranch trailhead - ...

Re: Find hike buddy?

Found my buddy. :y:
We plan to hike past Patagonia and then see how our pace, temperament, and habits work together. Since both of us are looking for 'alone' time, we'll most likely break apart then.

Re: Find hike buddy?

Well, I was looking for someone to hike with from the Arizona Trail southern trailhead northwest to the town of Patagonia, Arizona. I expect this to be about 3 days, not a dayhike (even though krud did that last year). I don't want to set expectations of being a thru-hike buddy with someone since ev...

Find hike buddy?

Any suggestions on finding a hiking buddy for Mexico to Patagonia? I'm starting around March 16, need to arrange a ride from Tucson, and would like to hike with someone through the first 50 miles or so. Actually, my wife and mom would like that. ;)

Thru-hike Water Questions

Besides cougars, javelinas, gila monsters, rattlesnakes, and scorpions, my concern is locating water on some parts of the AZT. :scared: 1. How does a March 15 NOBO start date sound this year? Or, would you suggest earlier or later based on current snow and weather? 2. Freeman Road water cache - it s...
