Re: Hike Events in Strange Times

@SuperstitionGuy @outdoor_lover
Maybe that's why Pam had "questions." That might be fun if we can find another approach. The road we came in on requires high clearance 4X4.

Re: Hike Events in Strange Times

I have my heart set on attending the event, but would understand if you don't want to risk it. The big issue, aside from masks and distancing, would be handling of champagne, cookies and other goodies. I'm sure we can figure that out. The group photo will require some creativity with distancing and ...

@DixieFlyer
I sent a subsequent reply with the updated closure order. I did not ask for the map since it's already been posted previously in this thread.

@chumley
I called the Mesa Ranger office today to inquire about the Peralta trail. Kyle said that the restricted closure order was extended through October 31st.

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline

@AZLumberjack Peralta TH is open, but Peralta trail is closed. That appears to be the east boundary of the closure. The Bluff Springs and Dutchman trails are open.

I am having issues with my iPhone, so I bought the phone recommended by Todd. I used it today. Works quite well. $129+ after tax at Best Buy.

@Jim_H
I have been. I have relatives in Eugene that are sitting nervously while the Holiday Farm fire torches Willamette NF. Caused by a fallen power line. It has grown to 150,000 acres in just three days.

Re: how do you clean/disenfect your hydration pack?

I detach the bite valve from the tube, wash it with soap and water, rinse, then set it aside. I drain the bladder promptly, shake out as much water as possible, insert a wadded up paper towel in the bladder to allow air inside, then hang it upside down on a rack in my garage to air out. I have never...

@tibber Hi Angela, I’m driving from Gilbert. If you’re anywhere close to my route, I can swing by and pick up the taffy. Send me a PM if that works.

Re: 2019 Hazolutions

Although I rarely mention them out loud, they’re usually the same: lose 20 pounds and stay healthy. A third would be to hike 1,000 miles. The healthy part has been inconsistent the last three years and losing that 20 pounds has always been elusive. Getting 1,000 miles will require planning. This yea...

Re: 7th Annual New Year's Day Hike

@outdoor_lover Hi Pam,
Sorry, can't make it this year. I was tempted to drive out for the celebration alone but an injury suffered yesterday has gotten painful today. I'm staying home. Hope y'all have a great time. Happy New Year!

Re: Superstition Peak 5057 Sept 13 5am

Almost the entire route is exposed. You will find a couple of shady spots, one near the Saddle and again on the second climb. Bring sun screen and lots of water. The good news is the warm part of the hike will be mostly downhill. Enjoy!

If you don't find anyone to hike with you, I'll go up there with you. I love hiking that end of the mountain and the views from the peak are amazing.

Re: HAZ Tracks - GPS Hiking App

@chumley It seems to work on the 5 model, too. I haven't been out of cellular range to test, but I've never been able to use it in airplane mode period. Rhonda and I both used it for a walk on Saturday; her identical phone was in normal mode, mine was in airplane mode. The distances were slightly d...
