@outdoor_lover
Thanks for the report. We will be heading that way tomorrow. I figured we would be about a week early, but this is when fall break fell for me this year.

.5 inches recorded at Sunset Point over the last 24 hours. 1 inch in the rain gauge at the GF’s place in town, 32nd street, Indian School area. The Strayhorse rain gauge in the Blue Range continues to have a solid precip year and has now recorded 11.2 inches of precip this year, by comparison Alpine...

@xsproutx I am kind of wondering the same thing. At least for the days I have been here, the summer has felt milder in comparison to last year. But then I turn on the weather and they are like no, it’s as hot as it’s ever been, lol. I coach high school cross country and I can say last year we only ...

Let’s hope Tonto ending fire restrictions was not based on expected precip totals from Lorena.
Edit: This was a pretty good swing and miss for the weather guys, I think the last time we had this big of a dud was for another mythical desert hurricane if I remember.

Good rain in the Blue Range too, the Strayhorse rain gauge continues to have a decent monsoon and has recorded two more inches of rain than the gauge in Alpine that I like to check up on. Strayhorse picked up an additional 1.39 inches of rain over the last 30 hours or so.

@chumley the risk of death was reduced by five percent Not to deter from this undoubtedly sound study, but isn’t the risk of death always 100 percent? Unless I am wrong, I am pretty sure there is a 100 percent chance that we will all die and I do not think anyone has been able to reduce that number...

https://www.azfamily.com/2025/07/29/jacob-lake-inn-faces-new-challenge-wildfires-burn-around-grand-canyon/ Summary: Jacob’s Lake Inn has been owned by the same family since 1923. 102 years in the family is pretty impressive. The fire obviously has not been good for business and there is some worry. ...

Ya we came down the S. Fork, which was in great shape BTW. But we turned around when it was clear there would not be water for the pups anytime soon.

100 percent. That lodge meant nothing to me. The forest was always the attraction for me. I am also glad that I am not the only one who remembers that this is the second time they bungled a fire they were just going to, “manage.”

@ALMAL Yes, although in spots it still seems a little premature out there. It’s as dry as I have ever seen it out there and in spite of recent rain. I could not even confirm if KP Creek is running. It’s the first time I have not seen water in the first mile and it was still bone dry when we turned ...

I would say we are lucky if any juniper comes back, from past fires, I’d say it’s more likely to expect miles and miles of locust up there.

There is a good size fire west of the Black River and towards the White Mountains burning right now. A pic. attached from Reno L.O. today. There were a couple of other small fires burning in the area, but this one was by far the largest. All fires are recent ignitions from the storms earlier in the ...

Re: Grand Canyon Lodge North Rim, lost to fire
At this point they need to do those owners of Jacob’s Lake a favor and just push both fires that way and let them collect some insurance. That place is going to shrivel up and die anyways now. I am curious to know when the north rim will even open again, in any capacity? Three to five years for the ...

Some fun weather out in the Blue Range today. Significant rain from Big Lake into Hannagan Meadows and beyond. There was enough graupel on the road to make me think about four wheel drive. lol The second pic. Is the P-Bar Lake Trailhead.
