Re: Wade Young - Killed by lightning strike on Humphreys

Does anyone have any information on the survivors?!? If so, could you please put them in touch with me? After surviving being struck last year and loosing a group member, unfortunately, I know exactly what they are going through and want to help. Please let me know if anyone knows them...

From Death's Door to Chasing Dreams...

Those of you who know me already know this side of me. I am passionate about all things wild. I am passionate about speaking out against the bastardization and sometimes downright raping of the land that so often transpires (I drove through Morenci, AZ last month...I nearly cried). I am passionate a...

I hate to say this...but I know exactly what that experience feels like - it isn't pleasant.

Re: Hiker killed by lightning on Cabin Loop yesterday

Thank you for the wishes guys...that's the stuff that got me through all of this in the first place. @Outdoor Lover - I haven't done this one yet.Glad to hear I picked a winner! I kind of found it by accident on the topos but once I saw it, I really honed in on it. I was surprised there weren't many...

Re: Hiker killed by lightning on Cabin Loop yesterday

10 weeks and 3 days ago today, I lay there dying on the forest floor. Today, 73 days after the strike, I had my follow up ultrasound. No, no...I wasn't preggers, rather the lightning caused blood clots in either one of my arms. I had been on the blood thinner for the full 73 days now, and this is wh...

8 weeks later...I return to the woods. Going camping up at near where all this happened tomorrow. Should be good. Just had this all laying around...still packed ever. Crazy. https://goo.gl/photos/VixftagHHZUGUsvC7

Re: Hiker killed by lightning on Cabin Loop yesterday

It's been a crazy, crazy ride, and in short - an absolutely horrible, experience. I ended up being conscious the entire time, from the moment I was struck, to the moment I finally stopped seizing in Flagstaff Medical Center's trauma room 6 1/2 hours later. The physical symptoms, are well-managed wit...

@Jason Cleghorn
Ok, I'll pack it and bring it...and you can decide on which way to go. It's pretty compact (though nothing like the Big Agnes)!

Re: Noob overnighting question...

Jason, I have an extra Eureka 1 person tent you can use for the trip this weekend. Its extra now that I have my Big Agnes Fly Creek UL1 (a super early Christmas present to myself thanks to the REI sale a couple weeks back). Let me know if you want to use it...

Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun

IMAG1394.jpg Just got back from another trek in the Gila last night...this time Mogollon Creek between Bud's Hole and Tepee Canyon... If you can deal with the incredibly exposed areas along the majority of the upper ridges (thank you very much Silver fire) of the mountains, you will find plenty, an...

Re: Spring Driving Conditions in Eastern Arizona

@Outdoor Lover Oh I know...I came close to needing some new pants for sure... The way the thing hit, and the fact the driver was able to steer into the elk at an angle, there could not have been a better result. Even Marco asleep in the backseat didn't fly up or anything. We knew we were lucky. And...

Spring Driving Conditions in Eastern Arizona

Just a general warning for drivers in the high-country...the routes in and around Show-Low and the rest of the White Mountains...there is a great elk migration or something going on...it's crazy. The pictures here were taken right after we hit one on the 260, 100 yards from our turn-off at Sunrise. ...

Re: 2014: Rain, Snow, Wind, and Sun

@Jim_H There's no need to worry about the Gila...at least if you are up above Silver City. Last time I was there, just a few weeks ago, not only were the middle and west forks flowing anywhere from mid-calf to upper thigh height (in fairness I'm only 5'6), but there were also active snowstorms you ...

Re: Missing hiker in Mazatzals - gpsjoe (Joe Domin)

I was in the area 3 weeks ago when Fan (an older Asian woman in my backpacking group) and I did the Deer Creek Loop. I had never really knew anything about gpsJoe, except seeing the various signs over the years, until this trip. When we had finally climbed up and gotten through the rest of the first...

Paria Canyon - White House to Lee's Ferry 38mi

Howdy everyone! I just wanted to drop a quick post on here to see if anyone is interested in Paria canyon over the Thanksgiving holiday. I know not everyone has family in town, and there's always so much that can still be done (well, if you aren't the black friday crowd)! The dates are the evening o...

@Poochie I've never done Inner Basin, but it's been on my list for quite some time. Will you guys be going up Friday or Saturday? I'm just interested in a day trip to the summit, but if you'll be up there at the same time it would be nice to have a hiking partner or two. We'll be heading up Friday ...

Re: Arizona Epic Adventures -Inner Basin Upward-Camp at 11,0

Yikes...I think this all was way misinterpreted. First, I meant no disrespect to the HAZ community. I have long used the site, but yes, only recently registered to be able to post and such. I didn't mean to flood the forums with my posts and I apologize to everyone whom views the events as just spam...
