Power bank recommendations

I’d like to get some updated power bank recommendations. @chumley had some years backed recommend Anker products, which I have been using. But I have a couple of multi-days trips coming up, and would like a compact solution with solar charging without having to unfurl a dozen panels. Does anyone hav...

Re: Interstate 11

I believe that some local Southern Arizona civic leaders and a couple of trucking associations have come out in opposition to a new route that would parallel Interstate 10 and bypass the Tucson metro area - the proposed routes would be far removed from existing rail, distribution, and service infras...

Re: Multi-day iPhone battery management strategies

I ended up getting a 9600mAh Anker. I ran my iPhone 6 on airplane mode, and the internal battery lasted all day. I ran my phone part of the next day on my mophie pack. I recharged both the internal battery and the mophie the 2nd night of the trip, as well as fully recharging my buddy's Galaxy Note 5...

ERe: Multi-day iPhone battery management strategies

@chumley OK, I rethought the 12 oz of weight and am attempting to cancel the order at Amazon. I couldn't find the weight of the 9600 unit, but I'm assuming that's it's around 6 oz. My only concern is not missing out on even 1 foot of AEG ;)

Multi-day iPhone battery management strategies

I'm going on my first backpacking trip in 10 years next weekend (3 days/2 nights). I'd like to use my iPhone 6/Route Scout to track my activity, but I don't want to spend a couple hundred dollars on batteries to get me through the weekend. At this point I just want to log the tracks, not view maps. ...

We've had so much rain in Tucson recently (it's been raining for 2 hours now this morning) that I found moss growing on the north side of some saguaros yesterday...

Amen. I love that top hook on the Keens. The laces do indeed stay tight and tied.

Re: Boots for hot weather hikes

I bought a pair of Keen Voyageur Mid Boots and I'm pretty happy with them. They seem to vent well, and I like the wide toe box.

Re: National Forest Camping

Years ago I've run across backcountry rangers in the Desolation, Carson-Iceberg, and Kaiser wilderness areas. But I doubt the Forest Service has the personnel anymore for that kind of frequent encounter to occur anymore.

Re: Your workout hike?

I live 10 minutes from Sabino Canyon. Depending on how much time I have, I like doing a little loop up Sabino Canyon Road to the Esperero Trail to Rattlesnake Canyon, crossing Sabino Canyon Road, down past the dam, then Bear Canyon Trail to the visitor center. Blackett's Ridge or Phone Line also. Up...

Re: HAZ Tracks - GPS Hiking App

I updated to version 1.8.3 today on my iPhone 5S. Everything seems to work fine except I'm not getting any time/breaks info. I checked all the settings. Am I missing something? I also noticed the battery discussion. I recently purchased a Mophie battery case to extend my hiking time. It sure beats t...

Re: HAZ Tracks - GPS Hiking App

Version 1.7.9 doesn't like me, either. iPhone 5s. Gets stuck in the GPS starting mode. All my other GPS app (AllTrails, TopoMaps+) working. Sorry :(
