I think you will find the southern segments enjoyable in March. Depending on the weather, you may run into some snow and/or cold at the higher elevations, but everything in between would be beautiful in March. (BTW...You'll love the Huachucas!)

Cari, You didn't mention where you're planning on starting on the trail and how far you are going.

Does anyone know how I can get from Summerhaven to the Gabe Zimmerman trailhead? We are section hiking the AZT and knocking out the Santa Catalinas in March/April but just don't know how we will logistically get from point B to point A. Any ideas?

I just read today on the AZT site under passages that the park allows backpackers to call the day of and if any permits are available, you can purchase one over the phone. Otherwise you have to make reservations in advance. At least that's what I'm counting on since we will be going through there at...

Has anyone or does anyone know anyone who has hiked Segment 1 in mid July? Planning a AZT kickoff for my 50th birthday on July 20th, which I have no control over my birthdate, but that's really what I want to do. Any input?
