Just wanted to say farewell...
I am moving to the great north woods of New Hampshire, just south of the White Mountains next week. To Joe, what a wonderful resource you have built here. To those I hiked with, I will miss our times spent together. I hope that I inspired a couple people to join HAZ and that they will love the AZ mo...

Re: Fire in the Peaks
Coconino NF twitter tells me there''s a fire at what most of us call Doyle Saddle (maps call it Freemont) in the Peaks. There haven't been any thunderstorms around here in days, and that's probably the most popular campsite in the entire Kachina Peaks WA, so I'm go to go ahead and call this human-c...

Re: Joe Bartels hiking injury
Hey, Joe. In no small way did this website pretty much save my life or at least my sanity. When I moved to Phoenix, I knew no one. Had no friends. My family was 2K miles away and wouldn't be joining me for 9 months. Thanks to your creation, I found something in this life that A. I was pretty good at...

Inciweb reports that the plan for the fire includes burning the top of the mountain to reduce fuels and protect the cabin and lookout structure. Fire perimeter maps show all burned areas, including aerial ignitions and intentional burnout operations. https://inciweb.nwcg.gov/incident/article/5209/3...

Re: 2-3 day Mt. Lemmon loop trail
Hello, I'm looking for a 2-3 day backpack trail loop on Mt. Lemmon for my sons and I this July preferably with water access. Any suggestions? Thank you! You can click Map from the top of the page, zoom to the Mt. Lemmon area, then right click and select Plot Routes in View/All to get a ton of optio...

According to a map I just saw, the Boundary Fire is now on top of the Kendrick summit, and likely where the cabin is and possibly even the lookout. Can anyone in Flag verify that?

Re: 2017 Boundary Fire Kendrick Area Trails Closed 180 closed
Helicopter aerial ignition operations continue today near the Kendrick Mountain peak. The operations, in which incendiary devices are dropped from a helicopter to reduce dead and down fuels, began near the peak on Tuesday. The plan is to continue to use aerial ignition to bring fire slowly down the...

I would probably be at your type of Speed, especially right now and I happen to be a Photography Addict. [quote="TylerDurdon"]My wife, my 17 year son and I are going to Arizona and are signed up for a day hike. I'm reading all of the stuff about carrying a LOT of water when hiking in or around the Grand Canyon. Should I buy a camelback? How much water should I carry? Am I going to end up as a...

Re: How many is too many?
This was sort of discussed with a similar thread started by Jason some time back. Maybe I am different on this issue, but for some reason I don't mind big crowds where I expect to get them; Camelback, Humphrey on a nice June Saturday, or where ever. Obviously, an upper limit has to be there, somewh...

I'd like it if everyone everywhere were limited to 15 or less on all public lands even non-Wilderness but that's a pipe dream.
