Re: Looking for a couple of hearty volunteers...

@friendofThundergod The person I posted this for is a extremely experienced long distance hiker with over 14,000 miles hiked. Trail maintenance is for the safety and pleasure of all skill levels. FYI, even with the difficulty of the trail being grown in and getting numerous cuts from thorns, they s...

Re: Looking for a couple of hearty volunteers...

Sredfield: It's the section from mile 405 to 435. I got off the trail 3 weeks ago. I am posting for 2 friends that are still hiking south bound. They hiked this section last Friday and Saturday. They said the trail improved a few miles before crossing RT 87

Hope this helps.

Re: Looking for a couple of hearty volunteers...

Not sure if this forum is the correct one I need to post this on, but this problem needs to be fixed ASAP. The trail between Payson and Rt 87 is a absolute mess, and in bad need of maintenance. A good 6 mile section of trail is completely overgrown to the point where you can no longer see the trail....

Re: solar charging devices

Hey Guys: I want to thank all of you for your input. A lot of fantastic ideas. I hit the trail back on April 3rd. Prior to my start date I bought the Solarmonkey Adventurer charger. I've used it from the border to Summerhaven so far. I don't find the weight of the unit (265G) a problem at all. I att...

Re: Darn Tough

I just bought 4 pair yesterday along with 4 pair of the Injinji toe socks. I use the Injinji as liners and the Darn Tough socks over them.
Both of these brands are the absolute best on market.

Happy feet forever.....

Re: Water jugs NOT to cache

I would hope that hikers who do cache water bring there containers out with them and dispose in the proper receptacles at parking lots or in towns
We all have to practice Leave No trace, to preserve the beauty of all trails.

Water jugs NOT to cache

I just received a email from Brakeman and grasshopper about water jugs that are cached on the trail by thru hikers and are found empty when the hikers retrieve them. The jugs that leak have a seam across the bottom and continues up the sides. The email also suggest that opaque plastic containers als...

Re: AZT 16 & 17 water availability

@The Dude This past Friday I shuttled a couple from Picketpost to Kelvin at the Gila River. They hike passage 16 and 17. A spoke with them Sunday after they finished. My 1st question to them was about water in any of the washes or anywhere else close to the trail. They said the entire trail was ver...

Re: Spring 2015 Thru-hike and Greetings!

@cavaroc
last Saturday the 7th I hiked passage 18. At mile 308.2 as you enter the wash we heard a very large group of bees. We could see a couple bees flying around, but could not see the beehive.
We proceeded with caution with no incident.

Re: Google Earth PRO is now FREE

@Jason Cleghorn after reading your post yesterday, I went ahead and downloaded Google Pro. plugged in my brothers address in Candia N.H. when it was snowing. They have over 4' of snow on the ground already this year. I was expecting to see lots of snow, but when Google earth pro showed the area it ...

@randoo Hi John: Good luck and be safe. Justin and I will be averaging 30 miles per day. I own a business and have to do this trail within 26 days. We have a large support group meeting us at various points of the trail for re-supply. It's still early February and temps have been hovering in low 80...

@randoo
Justin was able to get a earlier start date from his employer. Our revised start date is now Friday April 3.
We've been hiking different passages the past 2 weekends to cache water.
Maybe we'll see you on the trail.

@smithf4e
I am free Friday morning and would be able to shuttle you to Passage 16.
I just hiked passage 17 this past Saturday. The trail is in great shape and water was flowing in the wash.
We are doing passage 18 this Saturday.

Re: looking for partner(s) for spring 2015 thru hike

@Sredfield Scredfield I live in the east valley and hike the Superstitions year round. Temps will not be close to 100 degrees in April. Temps start climbing to triple digits around 2nd or 3rd week of May. and even then it's hoovers in high 90"s. By that time we'll be in the area of Payson. Tha...

Re: solar charging devices

@Bob Lacourse all good points guys. Thanks for the info. I'll have my cell phone on air plane mode all the time to save battery life. Except when calling wife. The De lorm I'll only use on the PCT next year. Trying to stay away from battery devices to keep pack weight down from carrying extra repla...
