Re: Redfield Canyon Road Info

@azbackpackr

There are cattle troughs/bathtubs that have water. But it doesn't look particularly potable--filtered or not.

Re: Redfield Canyon Road Info

@chumley
Thanks. I didn't see that in my research.

To be honest, I don't understand all the ownership issues. But I do think I'll make a BLM/Land Trust call at some point to figure out what's going on.

Re: Redfield Canyon Road Info

@azbackpackr Hey. I actually want to backpack in the Canyon. But it's roughly 7-8 miles from road to TH. And it's an easy road to walk, but I would like to avoid that. Also trying to figure out what the other points are where one can drop into the Canyon. I went up a side canyon near the stone hous...

Redfield Canyon Road Info

Hi. I just came back from Redfield Canyon. I drove in on the usual road off of Cascabel road and that runs along the south side of Redfield Canyon. Even with a Taco, it was a bit much. When I came to "THE POINT," I parked it and avoided going down that beast because the road is too jacked:...

Re: re: cooking gear, food, stolen

@RedRoxx44

I hear you. It's hard to stealth it in the low desert. I would have just done a throw-down (no tent=more inconspicuous) but again, the mice.

The upside of the story though is that they didn't go for my tent/bag/pad, which they had to pass off-trail on their way to take the food bag.

Re: re: cooking gear, food, stolen

@SpiderLegs
Yeah. Seen a lot of that near Tucson and on the border.

I spoke to a ranger who mentioned that with the crackdown on people squatting in cities and on public lands, some folks are moving deeper into the wilderness... would be interested in knowing more about that observation.

re: cooking gear, food, stolen

Hi All- I was just out on a four-day backpack in the Supes that got abruptly cut at night 3. When I returned to my basecamp at Second Water, someone had removed my hanging bag. I lost a brand-new ultralight compression sack, a Solo Stove, a Snow Peak pot, food, medication and then some. For me, that...

Re: Route Out of Roger's Trough TH

@xsproutx Laugh "the actual trail is kind of a dump." I did see a report that as of late October there was water a 1/4 mile up from West Spring. My experience over the years is that there's always water in West Pinto. I just don't want this to be the one time there isn't... I suppose that...

Route Out of Roger's Trough TH

Hey Folks. I wanted to get some feedback about a loop out of Rogers Trough TH. From reading road reports on here, it seems the road to the TH is doable with 4WD. Once I get there, I was thinking of heading east on West Pinto to Oak Flat area and posting up for the night. If memory serves me correct,...

Thank you. Though I've walked a bit in the Chiricahuas, I didn't know about the site. Very helpful.

Re: re: Dispersed Camping Near Rucker Lake

@nonot
And thanks a bunch for this, too. At a distance, I'm less concerned about the trail conditions and focused on finding a place to set up shop. Will then walk and see what happens. Maybe I'm being too cavalier. Will report back.

re: Dispersed Camping Near Rucker Lake

Hi. Does anyone know if there is some dispersed camping near Rucker Lake in the Chiricahuas? If not, any other suggestions for dispersed camping nearby? I am hoping to walk some of the trails that go out of that south part of the range. Anything I need to know about hiking in that area? I know it's ...

re: issue with PM's

Hi. I didn't know where to post this.

When I try to send a message via PM, and hit "submit" (because there's no "send") it goes to my outbox. But it doesn't send to the recipient. Anyone know what's happening/what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

Re: Briar-proof gaiters (Dan's Hunting Gear brand)

Outdoor Research Gaiters are quite good. I do a lot of desert hiking. The bottom strap lasts a long time. Only thing that tends to go quicker, but not ridiculously quick, is the velcro. Nothing has poked through, yet. Not sure how it would hold up to a snake: hoping to never test that out.

Re: FR 172 & 172A to Rogers Trough TH

@herdbull to the parking lot of the TH for Reavis Ranch, right? I did that drive a couple years ago, in my subaru, and there were a couple spots that were super dicey. I got past those couple spots and then decided to park on the top of a hill and walk the last ~1/4 mile to the TH. I just didnt' ha...
