Come on, the whole 30 ft. tiger shark thing is totally believable if the only marine documentary you ever watched was Sharknado.

Not that I'm a through hiker, but I would start north and head south to lower. warmer climate to keep ahead of approaching winter. Plan starting in Flag southbound. If when you get here the weather forecast is unfavorable, move your start to Pine, which is 1500 feet lower.

I second the Knoll lake idea, totally beautiful and lovely camp sites. I hiked it from the hatchery as a day hike recently, but for backpacking, I would do it from the Rim road (FR300,) only 2 miles to the lake on Babe Haught trail. It's a lot of vertical from the hatchery.

Now I'm wondering how the current declination for any location in my Garmin GPS (with the old 1:24k topo maps I have loaded for AZ,NM.UT,CO) are dealt with when using my GPS to navigate from one location to another?
