Re: Sharing shuttle to southern trailhead

I am running a shuttle from Tucson to the start of the Arizona Trail (Montezuma) at 6:00am on Sunday, March 19. I have room for 3 more hikers (+ gear) if anybody is interested. Please PM me. Thanks!

Re: Sharing shuttle to southern trailhead

@Ksmiles
I live in Tucson and am giving another hiker a shuttle ride to the Coronado Visitor's Center early in the morning on March 19th. I have room to transport another hiker if that date works for you. Just send me a PM and we'll discuss details.

@FireFly
I live in Tucson and would be available on March 19 if you still need a ride to Coronado. When you get to section #9 (Saguaro National Park area), I'm nearby if you need a ride to resupply in town.

Re: winter hiking

In Tucson we get snow on Mount Lemmon which will affect Passages 10-12. Overnight temps can get cold (we sometimes get freeze warnings to cover outside plants), and mornings are chilly, but during the day the temps do warm a little (60s and 70s).

I'll be hiking Reavis, Alamo, and Gila River Canyon Trails during that 4-day weekend. SOBO, starting early Friday morning. Maybe I'll see you guys on the trail :)

Re: How many people are on the trail?

The only people I've ever seen on the Arizona Trail south of Tucson are the other people I'm hiking with. I've hiked one section by myself one day and never saw another soul.

Re: Passages 1-3 AzTrail

@Preacher
Take extra water for Passage #10. I did that one a few weeks ago and there were no sources of water along the trail except for "the lake" which is incredibly murky. The trail is bone dry. Also overgrown with catclaw.

Re: Wanted :: Hiking Buddy

I just hiked #10 today and most water sources were BONE DRY. The "lake" had water but it's beyond mucky with tons of moss and algae covering it. So for now, Plan to carry extra water.

Re: AZT Hike/Backpacking #1-3

I'll be hiking a couple of different Arizona Trail Passages this weekend with some friends, up in the Mazatzals. So I will still need to hike Passages #1-3 at some point. Perhaps the holiday weekend in October :) I am also hiking the Grand Canyon in October, near the end of month. I'm available the ...

Re: Wanted :: Hiking Buddy

Hi There! We share the same goal (section hiking the AZT in a year). I have recently started and only completed 6 sections so far. I would be more than happy to hike with you. I also have weekends and holidays off, which are the only times I can go. Let's definitely discuss some options. I live in T...

SAR Volunteer

Is anybody on this Forum involved with a SAR team? I'm interested in becoming a volunteer member of Southern Arizona Rescue Association (SARA) in Tucson. Their recruitment doesn't open again until next year, so that gives me time to physically train more (build muscle), and do some advanced preparat...

Re: On what hike in AZ have you been the most nervous

I've never gotten nervous while hiking, but I'd definitely advise to use caution if hiking around the Chiricahua National Monument. I did the Big Loop hike one day (9.5 miles), by myself, and saw half a dozen rattlesnakes. Had almost stepped on one, and was less than a foot from two others who were ...

Re: Mindless weather chit chat

Tucson is getting plenty of rain tonight! Storm hit hard at my house around 6pm and it's been raining constantly for the past 1.5 hours. Hoping for more throughout the weekend :)

Re: Some AZT food questions

To answer your question #2 about food - We do use freeze-dried meals here on trips. They can be purchased at Outfitter stores, and even Wal-Mart sells them. Two most popular brands are Mountain House and Backpackers Pantry. I also order a brand online called Wise Foods. Also check out http://www.zer...

Re: Best Active Valley Meetups for Singles

Guys must have better luck with apps like Tinder. I tried it once and that did not last long. I know not all single guys are the same, but I was getting the majority who were only looking for one thing, and I'm not that kind of girl. So I stopped using the apps and "singles" sites and am j...

Re: Best Active Valley Meetups for Singles

I know what you mean. I'm always in search of finding hiking buddies too and it's not easy. I'm only free on weekends while most folks go hiking during the week. I looked into the "Meet Up" site but most of their activities are weeklong traveling trips, or like you mentioned - the same hik...
