food/water cache between Flagstaff and Tusayan
Looks like a pretty good haul between Flagstaff and Tusayan. If I wanted to break up the load between Flagstaff and Tusayan, what would be a good place to leave a food and water cache? Especially food. I think there is a resupply box at mile marker 625.6, at Cedar Ranch trailhead. Anyone with experi...

Re: the shuttle details
Good info--thank you! It looks like we'll get to Tucson about 2:00 PM. Here is a plan I am rolling around in my head. I'd appreciate feedback. I'm guessing a shuttler can get us to the Coronado National Monument by 4:00 PM. We could do the walk to the border and back and then camp somewhere close to...

the shuttle details
Well, it's time to firm things up for a 5 March start (barring a sudden snow storm). Coming down from Tucson, is it the normal deal to shuttle to Sierra Vista, and spend the night there? Then shuttle again to the trail head the next morning? Is there a good reason for doing it this way? Or, just go ...

Re: Long(est) water carries
@rcorfman After reading a bunch of blogs, my wife and I decided on 5 Mar as a start date as it seems like a good compromise between freezing/snow and heat/dry water sources. With the winter that AZ is getting this year, I am starting to think about starting a week or even two weeks later. I'd be in...

Re: Sharing shuttle to southern trailhead
@LuckyMan
Will do. We are watching the weather, etc for a good start date, so 5 Mar is our tentative. Thanks!

Re: Sharing shuttle to southern trailhead
I hope it's ok to piggyback on this thread. I have two hikers willing to share a shuttle from Tucson to Sierra Vista, or Coronado. On or about 5 March. Thanks!

Re: Long(est) water carries
I appreciate the replies. I check the Water Sources file periodically, but much of the info is many months out of date. Being in North Carolina, I'm very out of touch with the kind of winter that Arizona is having and how that compares to previous winters. Glad to hear (for my own selfish reasons) t...

Long(est) water carries
I've been reading blogs and seeing that there are a couple of long water carries. At least one seems to have a cache to break it up. Hoping that some of you that have hiked the trail can help identify where the longest water carries are. (I'll be hiking Mar/Apr). Thanks!!

Resupply Summerhaven
Looking at Summerhaven as a possible resupply. Appears the PO is not open Sat/Sun. That can be inconvenient. Does the store in town take packages?
Cheers,

Gateway Community Resupply Info
Hello! Planning a thru hike starting in March and want to start my resupply planning. Somewhere on the big internet I saw a spreadsheet put together by a thru hiker that had info on where resupplies were possible along the trail. I think (or dreamed) it contained the mile marker, distance and direct...

Passage 11 Santa Catalina Mountains
I notice that there are two ways through passage 11, a western route that appears in the guide book and an eastern (newer?) route that appears on the ATA interactive map. What are the pros and cons of these two routes?

Re: AZT Gear?
OK. Not trying to be dense, but to make sure I understand--getting the food bag off the ground keeps it safe from mice, raccoons, javelinas, etc?

Re: AZT Gear?
Thanks for the advice! I think I'll try to go with the NeoAir.
On the food security part, I am not sure I understand. As we thru hike the AZT, it looks to me like there are long stretches where there are no trees suitable for hanging a food bag. In those cases, what do you do with your food bag?

AZT Gear?
Hello! I'm a newbie and very grateful for this site. My wife and I plan to start a NOBO hike of the AZT, starting in March 2017. We have a good bit of experience in Appalachia, Blueridge. But the desert is another beast. I have a couple of specific equipment questions and would appreciate guidance f...
