Re: Bears In The News

I read a report a couple of days ago about a "problem" bear near Josephine Saddle in Madera Canyon. Below is a video that someone took.

It looks like this bear has lost its fear of humans and sadly it will likely have to be euthanized.

Re: Dragon Bravo Personnel

@Jim I looked into the background of the Keable individual who is the Grand Canyon Park Superintendent. I expected to find that he had extensive experience in park and forest management. Instead, he had no such experience at all. For the last 23 years Keable was a government attorney in Washington ...

Re: Atmosphere Comparison

There was 1/2 inch of rain at my house overnight, which no doubt was the result of me washing and waxing my truck yesterday. You're welcome!

Re: Union wants to close some trails because "ermagherd so warm"

I saw where a family of 11 people ignored the "trail closed" signs on the Holbert Trail, and then had to be rescued when they all became overcome by the heat. Sounds like some candidates for the Darwin award.

I saw where there have been 14 named wildfires in southern Arizona so far this year. Of the 14, 8 are confirmed to be human caused; 4 are suspected to have been caused by humans; and 2 were caused by lightning. https://www.kold.com/2025/06/06/one-cited-wildfire-others-sought-array-blazes-southern-ar...

@Pivo
from what I have read Schultz is a former timber industry executive and lobbyist, which makes me wonder if he might have a biased view of things

Going back to the late 1800's, I saw where Phoenix has only had measurable rain one time on June 1st. That might change this Sunday.

Death on Mount Ord

I saw where a couple of teenagers were killed on Mount Ord, and it is apparently a homicide. I could speculate on what might have happened, but out of respect for the deceased I won't. I did have to laugh at how the news story described how treacherous the road up to Mount Ord is. The reality is tha...

That is a bummer. I never met Roger; in fact I never knew his real name. However, I enjoyed reading his interesting and informative trip reports over the years. He and I hiked to many of the same peaks, although for different reasons. May he RIP and hopefully he is finding lots of wood, wires, and d...
