Re: Critical Theory, Critical Race Theory?

@Alston_Neal
There is a "Political" forum on here, so topics such as "critical race theory" and "redflex" would seem to be fair game.

Re: Horton Fire

@xsproutx
I was going to hike in the area tomorrow, and it doesn't look like that will happen...however, the latest from inciweb is that the fire is 3 acres in size and is 80% contained; hopefully, the fire will be extinguished without causing much damage

Horton Fire

I saw this on the Payson Roundup facebook page: Gila County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Dennis Newman said See Canyon Trail and Horton Creek Trail have been closed after a wildfire started on the Highline Trail above Horton Creek early Wednesday morning. Newman said the Forest Service has resources on the...

Re: 430+ Doing R2R Last Saturday

@SpiderLegs Part of the problem with the "large group" limit is that hardly nobody knows about it. The notification of the limit on the park website is almost impossible to find, and to my knowledge there is no signage at either the BA or SK trailhead that alerts hikers as to the limit. Back to you...

Re: 430+ Doing R2R Last Saturday

@DixieFlyer Here is the language from the Park website regarding Special use permits for R2R hikes and the like: Organized Group Rim-to-Rim and Extended Day Hike/Run Groups whom must obtain a permit: * Organized Non-Commercial Groups are defined as any group traveling together, such as scouts, a clu...

Re: 430+ Doing R2R Last Saturday

@SpiderLegs There already is a requirement to obtain a Grand Canyon permit (at a cost of $250) for groups, if the group is 11 people or more: https://www.nps.gov/grca/learn/management/sup.htm#CP_JUMP_2602654 However, due to Covid the maximum group size is curently 10, so I guess that no permit is n...

Re: Fires along Superstition Ridgeline

@rayhuston
The Tonto website shows the Peralta Trail as being closed; however, I do not see anything about "the restricted closure order" being extended. In particular, the website shows the Dutchman Trail, Black Mesa Trail, Siphon Draw Trail, and Second Water Trail, among others, as being open.

which route are you going to take up to Mazzy Peak? I haven't done that one in a couple of years, so it is in my crosshairs to do again...but I will wait another few weeks for the temps to cool a bit

Re: Sears Fire

@Jim_H It might depend on which way the wind was blowing wrt whether or not the Mazzies are getting any smoke from the Sears fire -- you were probably safer to head north to Flag. I can certainly smell smoke outside of my house this morning -- there is hardly any wind right now. Yesterday, I could ...
